Got a baby Arowana with eggsack...questions!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
can anyone tell me how to get my new aro to accept flake food...or pellets...he has some tankmates...(guppies) and hes been eating them...but after they are gone (theres 7 left) how do i go about getting him to eat flake food...should i starve him a little bit?

helppppppppppp!

someone told me to keep feeding live until hes a little bigger then i can starve him a little bit to let him get used to eating flakes/pellets faster...

if under 4-5 inches I would keep on feeder guppies and pinhead crickets for awhile till it hits 5" or over. Then starve for awhile and put a stick/pellet in once in awhile until he takes.

yeah hes about 3-4inches...i guess he got expensive taste...lol...jk...feeder guppies are pretty cheap...what are "pinhead crickets"? i tried feeding him a small cricket today but he didnt want it...he striked at it once but it wasnt moving so he didnt eat it...

well thanks for replying!

any more tips out there?!

hahah if you read the whole thread up to page 10 it says about my aro w/ eggsack...but that one died and im using this same thread to talk about my new aro...

i raised my arow from when it was a baby... we fed it FD bloodworms from the day we got it until a couple weeks after. after the egg sack was absorbed we would try to feed it half a food stick every once in a while.. eventually he took to those instead so we fed strictly foodsticks.. we grew him to about 6-7 maybe 8 inches in a 29 gal.. now that hes growing more we put him in a 75.. hes a pig and eats up to 10 sticks in a single sitting..

forgot to mention... we have ABNS in all our tanks so he was started with the abn in a 29 gal still with an egg sack. after he absorbed the egg sack i wanted to see how he reacted to guppies in his tank, so i added a few. he didnt eat them and now he can lives in peace with guppies, angels, and baby bristle noses. i dont know if this is because i never started him on live food, but its really nice to be able to keep smaller fish with the arrow and not be worried all the time..

on the other hand... my cousin also tried to keep the arrows with the sack... the first one he had got pecked to death becuase he was dumb and tried to raise in a comm tank.... then he bought another and that also died but this time it was due to poor water..

pic update?

ill post pics asap...ill even take some video of him eating guppies...its soo cool! lol...
