Got a baby Arowana with eggsack...questions!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
dont feed until eggs gone, also goodluck your gonna need it.

sounds like im gonna have a tough time bringing this little guy up? i hope everything goes smoothly...

is there anyone else out there that was successful at raising their aro with eggsack?

does anyone know approximately how long it will take him to absorb the eggsack?

please stop posting every minute :) you don't need to feed anything till the eggsack is absorbed, then feed it flakes and FD blooworms. get it on pellets asap and don't feed any live until its established on pellets and only as an occasional snack. if you decide you want to feed it live, either breed your own feeders or quarantine them for at least 2 weeks. best to not have any tankmates at that size IMO. a small piece of driftwood would be welcome as it would lower the pH a little so its a little more "natural" for your probably farm-bred fish.

about the guppy: if it's not scaring the aro, its probably okay to leave it in there, but it's not worth leaving it in there to me

I am and its currently around 2.5"-3". So far so good. I had purchased two but one died within the first week.

Put a block of fd blood work in a net and run it under water to wash it out, this will stop it polluting the water. Put a pinch of it on top of the water. He should start eating straight away. Leave the guppy in there. He will be more scared of the Arowana and stay out of the way.
I can see some plants, thats good. I would get more though. If he does get scared he will want to hide in something rather then be out in the open.
Light is good... it promotes growth. Try not to keep him in the dark all the tme.

I hate it when our supplier sends us Aros with an egg sac. The death rate is high.

lol...the guppy is in there from when i siphon'd water from my catfish tank...it got sucked in because i didnt want to cycle another whole tank...

thanks for the input guys/gals! ill keep you posted! any recommendations on what plants to get? i prefer floating type...
