Got a new marbled female. Not so great

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh my, good luck with her. Can you separate her from the other ray and aro?
Well there isn't a point now. Once a fish has been infected with columnaris you pretty much infected all the fish in your tank. So now this entire tank is a quarantine tank... I fee that the female is moving about means it's calmed down but isn't feeling healthy because of the mysterious disease which I think is columnaris. I put salt to improve gill function and shorten life span of columnaris. And put the furan2 to somehow kill it. I don't expect immediate results but I would like my ray to eat. She is getting kinda milky substance on her disc which I believe is the thin strands of the columnaris invisible to the naked eye that is dying off.

I meant separate her in the tank from the other fish. Grim outlook I'm afraid.

Well put this one down in the book as a lesson learned hard...

I no there isn't no point seperating from a infection point of view but stress wise might be best to separate ?

i made a seperator last night out of lighting diffuser i found lying around from when i was building sumps. looked at her when i woke up. The columnaris has now spread throughout her body. her body is covered in white though i treated her yesterday. She is now beginning to breath heavily. Not a good sign. I added more salt in to increase the gill function and hopefully kill off some of the columnaris. I have been slowly raising the salinity to make sure there was no shock.

Only way I ever killed columnaris on my Scats was to catch them and use Methylene Blue Directly on it. Worked immediately. No Meds worked for me.

yeah, doesnt seem like the furan2 is working. it actually looks like it accelerated the process... But unfortunately i believe this ray is unsavable. from the way she was moving about and breathing i dont think she will last tomorow. its unfortunate :/ ive brought stuff from imports before, this is the first one to have such as bad stress attack. the rest came in fine.

yes its quite unfortunately. i medicated ad nuked my bacteria colony for nothing... thankfully i have spare media i can split and switch in other sumps. I did a good 70% water change to try to get the green color from the medicine out of my water. I will be buying some carbon to try to drain out the color.
