Gotta situation with my Oscar's Eyes....anyone have/had the same situation???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When my con feeders get to big to be food i kill them with a sharp knife to the back of the head..and fillet them up to feed in chunks.

OR i freeze them and used them as filler when i make home made fish food.

same thing happened to my dads oscar. started on the eye and started spreading to the point where the whole eye was pure white, covered in mucus or whatever. i did stumble upon a forum on MFK and found out it was cloudy eye. go give it a read and hurry because my dads oscar did not last very long.

alright you got the web address for that?

Well, now that we have more input. It seems everyone is in concensus that it's a water quality issue. Since you cant add another canister, or HOB. Then let's focus on what we can do. WC WC WC. Remove the goldfish from the equation. Increase temp. And add salt.

If I was me I'd get the goldfish out of there, do a 50% wc, salt it up, raise the temp, and if no change after two days try Tetra Lifeguard. Stuff is going to be expensive as hell on that size tank though but I've had really good luck with it when nothing else has worked. You need one tablet per gallon if I remember right to figure out how much you need for a full course of treatment. It would be $26 for two bottle sizes plus shipping here - http://www.petcarerx.com/catalog/productdetails.aspx?pid=19940&&id=1777 Just do a search for it, there are some sites that have the 150 tablet bottle for $12 plus shipping.

I know goldfish are the worst to keep, I first got them as 1.5" feeders to circulate the tank....when I first got the over 3yrs ago and as you noticed they're a bit too big to be "food"

Goldfish feeders have become my pet syndrome....Its a common occurance in the hobby. I can understnd if you want to keep them. Jumbo gold fish are a nice addition in any large community. I would like them myself but the polluting factor made my decision to not have them.

In your situation all the filtration in the world does not matter much. There is no solution for water volume. With the numbers , sizes and types of polluting fish you have , water volume is your main solution.

oh ya stuff is already expensive, with my fish I got in this tank I started them as babies and now there's $3000 invested in this 180gal tank alone
