gravel substrate question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
tiger barbs only get like 3in, and as long as they are in a decent size school i havent seen them mess with other fish, why in the world would a 4ft tank not be big enough for them? its not like hes keeping 50 of them, and OP could you post pic of your "texas" so we can see if it is indeed a texas or a carpintis as texas cichlids get much bigger and more aggressive than most carpintis

I did not make myself clear. A 4ft tank is not too small for Tiger barbs what I should have said his stocking list with 5 tigers is too much IMO. I wouldn't like it. That's what I ment.

oh ok gotcha and yeah i only recommended he get a few more barbs if he gets rid of all the gouramis and because IME when i only had a couple, thats when they were annoying and would nip the crap out of all my fish's fins but as soon as i had a good school then they only messed with each other and ignored everything else

but either way OP you will need a bigger tank for all of these fish to be happy

yeah that looks like a cyanoguttatus to me, they get like 12" and are a lot more aggressive than carpintis, you will most likely need like a 125 to keep him with tank mates successfully

im pretty sure it is, it looks like the young ones i used to have but they were a bit smaller when i gave them away, and looks like a male because the females will get a black spot in their dorsal fins. he would make a great single wet pet in a 75...

Anyone have tips for taken high quality pics...use flash. turn off lights in tank? and use flash? Just thought maybe youve been thru that already so thought id ask

actually best things is to turn lights on the tank and turn off flash on camera or clean the glass inside/outside as well as you can and take pic from angle to prevent reflection from flash. im still working with a little cheap digital camera lol but there are some people with dslr cameras that take amazing pictures on here and they would know more about that than i do. i use the sports setting on my camera and it does the best so far with what im working with lol

carpintis and salvini don't get alone well, you need to be selective on the species.
I think 75g is more popular than 90g due the fact that a few inches higher doesn't make much difference and even i have 75g, i only fill 70% of water. Prior to fulfilling the tank water, you should as well consider the structural safety.
