I think the tweezers was probably the best way to go. I have a pretty nice isoflurane machine and have performed surgeries on over a hundred herps and it is always a dicey situation. The animals ability to hold their breath, withstand low o2 concentrations, and their sometimes violent reactions to the smell and taste of the gas can really prolong and increase the animals stress. When it is all possible, I will go with the tube method. Maybe a bit more initial discomfort for the animal but it is over quicker and the stress is much less.
