I have 4 rays in a 150 right now. 2 hybrids that are 6-7", 1 from h20 4 months ago, 1 from lfs about 1 month ago, 1 -4.5" hystrix from aquascape 3months ago, 1-6" hystrix from aquascape 1-1/2 months ago.
all have been treated for Prazi at recomended dosage, when obtained.
All eat well, both hybrids are on pellets and hystrix have ate shrimp and worms.
I do 2 50% waterchanges weekly and am very filtered. I do have a sand bottom, but it is very thin. The only fish i ahve in the tank with the rays are 1 armatus 8-9" and 1 silver dollar 4".
I noticed that my bigger female Hystrix skin looks to be peeling off on her back, and it almost looks like small white bumps on her. She has been eating very well, and just finally got weened to eat shrimp. SHe has been burying herself more lately than before. I have read and been keeping up with the threads on the bacterial problems lots of the other guys have been going through, and it does not seem like this to be, her belly looks fine and her "feet" do too. I also noticed that one of her eyes looked to be getting a little fuzz around it like a bacteria or fungus.
Should i just up my waterchanges or start treating?? i am so confused...
on a side note, my male Hystrix the smaller one, is the first one i got from aquascape, and he had very high ammonia in the bag when i first got him, and his eyes have been slightly cloudy now for 3 months. I did treat with macryn2 but did not treat with macryn. All the rays were in the tank during this treatment. I noticed no change whatsoever with the small Hystrix's eyes after treatment, and have assumed that the high ammonia caused permenent damage to his eyes.
Could what the small hystrix has be contagious, or is it that Hystrix have smooth skin they can get bacteria/fungus problems more easiely.?
