i was thinking that too, not to get all crazy and start pouring in the med's. No need to be freaking out if it is eating. But DB talks like his started dying very quick, i would like to stop it before it gets to that. Water changes water change water change........ i think i will get some salt and add small amount like 1lb per100 gallons. adn then wait till the binox get's here and decide if it has gotten worse and i need to treat.

i was thinking of seperating them but that may cause more stress and the other rays are probably affected too.

Mine did die VERY quickly......

BUT I still do NOT know 100% for sure that it was NOT stress induced. I added the 4 lil Dorado a few days prior...... I really don't think it was/is my water unless someone here can honestly tell me I'm not changing enough by doing at least 20% 5 times a week.... I've done at least 4 WCs a week since I had over 4 rays in my pond.... They have been fine for well over half a year.

Nothing really changed aside from adding some "allready QTd" wild caught rays.... But that was like 3 weeks earlier.

Believe me this whole situation is confusing. I don't give up on things very easy but when these things just up and die on me it's pushing me to the point of throwing hands up, white flag in each.

Your Armatus will be fine.... I double dosed Binox the first day, and my Rhaph hasn't lost a hint of appetite.

What I did was throw a divider in. I thought the Dorado may have played a part. I was so mad I just hucked them in the pond. 2 jumped the divider and became Odoe snackens...... Kinda ironic.... My first Marble that up and died for no reason did it after eating an Armatus. Now another ray does the same thing, and what happens in the process? I lose prized Characins AGAIN.

Whoever said fishkeeping isn't painfull hasn't kept rays...... This stuff right here is flat out sickening.

i am not about to quit... but then again, i have not lost any rays yet due to the unknown.
I just added the armatus Friday just noticed this problem Monday. I also decided to slowly lower my tank temp, i felt i was running to high at 86 degrees... maybe that is what flared this up?

Keeping rays aren't for the faint at heart...I definitely feel DB. The thing is, you can never "certaintly" tell whats going on with the rays internally. Stress from and importer-to vendor-to you could have caused some damage in the rays that may have been dormant but is irreversible. Dr. Ross talks about this in his book. Also, we may be raising our temps too high. I am half-way convinced that my female marble could not take the 86 degree temperatures (she had absolutely no visual defects-just stopped swimming, eating and probably died within a week and a half tops). Every other ray in that tank was perfectly fine but all came from different regions of the river. Dr. Ross also spoke of losing rays due to high temperatures. The thing is, we never know...we just gotta due what we know to do and hope for the best. Who knows, maybe the life span of some of these rays would have been exactly the same if the were in the wild. But no matter how many times I think about quitting, I realize that the ratio of other fish I have loss compared to rays tells me my best odds are actually with keeping rays. Like someone said earlier..."its apart of the game". It definitely sucks like no tomorrow, but it is what we bargained for.

I hope it all works out DB and Keepinfish. Buena Suerte!

86? LOL All my rays would be dead if this were true.

I ran 90 for 2 weeks straight......

i spent some time reading the dr ross last night to decide if i should be medicating, raising/lowering the temp, adding salt, and after reading some of the threads that Mike(h20), DW, and all the guys with ray troubles, i cannot decide what is the best thing to do.... i guess just keep doing water changes and up my maintence. it is free and can't hurt.

what do you mean?

i was around 86 for some time, and i just decreased it to 78 or so, maybe that is what flared it up is what i was saying.

I see. Personally I'd lean more towards some kind of stress then the temp swing.... Even if you unplug all the heaters I wouldn't think that would be enough to stress them.... I could be wrong though. I dropped mine recently too... Had it up for a few weeks when I added the last pair.... Dropped 6-8 degrees after that, but that was probobly a week prior to all this.

Maybe the Armatus is curious of the flying rugs???

Just kinda wierd I add Dorado and within a few days I have problems, you add an Armatus and within a few days problems.....

I know rays aren't for the faint of heart.... But when you take after trying to find nice ones, and it takes years to track down nice ones and all the meanwhile walking on eggshells trying to keep them all healthy and do it for long periods of time with no problem then to have problems all of a sudden after adding a few new ones......... GRRRR. Fresh disease introduction from WC? Stress on the others from the new ones? Tankmates? Too many friggin variables......

This is the kinda brainteaser that lands you in a fancy comfy room that appears to have scrunchy pillows everywhere..... With a nice fancy new jacket with lots of buckles.
