That shadow isn't a shadow it's a reflection of the dorsal fin out of the water. See how the guy in the kayak has the same reflection under him. Also the angle of the reflections is the same which suggest that the picture is in fact real.

totally irrational, but in "jaws" which i first saw at age of 10, i don't think there was any mention that they actually breach like whales
