for the oscar tank i plan on over filtering it lol like for the 75 of for teh 120 id prob get 2 hangon power filters rated for 100 gallon tanks :D i hate to see oscars in the 55 gallon tanks IMO a 55 is just a little to small for an adult oscar

there is another thread on the pond and im going to buy a pond heater that will keep the pond ice free all winter

As long as the width of the tank is more than the oscar's length it's all good. Well, as long as capacity is adequate too. i.e. You could keep an oscar in a 58 (36x18) but not a 55 (48x13) and not a 40B (36x18). The 58 meets both requirements where the 55 and 40B only meet 1.

In my experience, oscars and green sunfish don't mix. As a previous poster mentioned, oscars are not as aggressive as green sunfish. Greenies do not get quite as big as oscars (max size around 10" for the greenie, and around 15" for the oscar, although usually more like 8" and 12", respectively). However, this is close enough where the more aggressive green sunfish will bully the oscar. I tried keeping an 11" oscar with green sunfish, and this combination really only worked as long as the greenies were 4" or less. As soon as it reached about 5-6", one green sunfish overpowered the oscar, and I had to separate them. In my opinion, these two species could only coexist with lots of space in a huge tank.

Great advice! I can't fault you for that.

However, please try to be cognizant of the date of posts you're replying too. This thread is 11 years old :)

Yep, I realize when the thread started. But if the thread is still up, then it's worth sharing good information on it, no?

Bumping a long dead thread that hasn't been active is generally frowned upon in most forums. This forum is no exception.

I'm not faulting you for doing it, I'm asking you not to make a habit of reviving 11 year old threads.

Yeah, they call them "zombie" threads. If it's such a problem, I think threads should just get closed to new comments after X years. Nevertheless, I will comply with your request.
