Green Sunfish/Warmouth Hybrid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Now for my 2 cents, i have to say that pic#34 does have the traits of a Greengill and by the looks of it something else but only time will tell as the fish will get bigger.

Bjbass, that fish looks like a bluegillXpumpkinseed hybrid.

ok, i truely have no idea what the original fish is. Have any recent pics of it MinnowMagnet?

I was thinking that it may be some sort of a hybrid as well. There are bluegills in the lake where I got this guy. I believe that is the only other species of sunfish in there, so it is very possible.

That is an amazing sunfish anyway not sure we don't have warmouths around here we have punkinseeds, bluegills thats it time will tell what you have.

i'll try to get a pic soon, it still looks the same

Here is a pic of it. its not very good quality, just a crappy cell phone pic, but still a pic.

Looks like a warmouth to me.

I found this pic on nanfa of a similar fish(pure warmouth) and the heads appear to be built differently and have different coloring.

I think the fish is a hybrid.

in my opinion,

the fish in question is a warmouth

I would like to see a clear picture of it in a tank feeding or just before it was feed with its fins extended.

If that fish (with its mouth structure, and its head and body shape) has a white or yellow and white border on its dorsal, anal, and pectoral fins then it is probably some sort of hybrid.

I think the body pattern on the fish, and even the cheek pattern can be so random that it should not be used to make any sort of determination as to species.

Please note the blue cheek markings and the tight body pattern that are often atributed to Pseeds. That fish was caught in the Tensaw river delta (near Mobile, AL) no chance of being a pseed hybrid, way outside the range
