Green terror aggresion poll.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I voted yes. I haven't kept a GT, but from what I've read and seen...they can fend for themselves. I haven't seen any real aggression from the tanks that I've seen it in. They were all getting along nicely in a 150g tank, a 100g tank, and a 75g tank. They were housed with some Oscars, Jags, FHs, and JDs.

JACKOSCAR......you have obviouslly never owned or witnessed a full grown tri-mac. they are outright murderers. at 14 to 16" they are twice the weight of a same sized devil and probably 3 times the weight of the largest green terror. you see fish at lfs's and they are crowded first off. second they come and go on a regular basis. they dont have time normally to take over the whole tank before they are sold. sure the green terror in a big enough tank can survive, but he will never thrive. not with these behemoths. i am sorry you all disagree. it is only natural for us all to have opinions though. in a FIGHT the GT would get destroyed pretty quickly by ALL the fully grown tri-macs i have seen and the 1 i owned. i have seen many many green terrors that were big and aggressive. they are one of my all time fav. cichlids due to the beauty some of the show specimens have, but in the "ring" they dont stand a chance. they may co-habitate with them in the same HUGE tank with other fish in there as distractions but not in a 1 on 1 situation!!!!!! didnt intened to make this sound like i was pickin on ya JACK. sorry if i did.

Meyhem I will agree with you if you agree not to eat any of my fish....

I think that you have a point...... GT are not in the same size class as a lot of these other fish but if you keep them with same size fish they do fine.

I have a male Jag that would kill any of my GTs but he is bigger then they are.

If you could make a demasoni the size of a GT it would be one mean SOB.

I will have to tell you that my GT thats in the 265 is going great and thriving.... look at his pic..... no nips on his fins and several of his tank mates were given to me for little or no money because they "killed every thing that you put it with"

hahahaha. nice specimen indeed. and yes if a demasoni was the size of these fish wre would all want one. Neetroplus nematopus is a smaller cichlid that can bully much larger fish as long as they are more than a mouthful.

This whole thing got twisted up, marce started all this in another post taliking about GT's not being able to be housed with TRIMACS,RD'S,JAGS etc. and his reasoning behind that statement was they lack the proper tools to defend themselves. That is just false i see these fish together all the time at many area LFS and there is no stress, but like another member said it depends on the individual fish. Some of you are acting like TRIMACS AND JAGS are in the same class as UMBEE AND DOVII and they are not. These fish will without a doubt destroy a GT and any other cichlid. But the fact of the matter is (GT,JAGS,TRI'S) are often kept togeteher with no issues but there are also cases where it doesn't work but the fact that they are kept together proves that the GT can handle itself with these other large cichlids. Anyways i'm sure there are those who disagree but i'm going off what i've seen and i'm obviously not the only one.

I disagree. I think his reasoning is quite sound. In his post he talked about aggresion and capablity being different. He could not be more correct. Sure they are many fully grown terrors out there who could match a trimac in aggresion however if you were to take 11" terror and a 11" trimac physically speaking the trimac is superior in every category including speed. Aggresion does not equal physical strength, physical stregth equals physical strength. So IMO and IME his arguement is correct.

I totally agree with CM. A 13"+ male trimac would destroy any terror alive regardless of aggresion levels. I also think that any of the fish marce mentioned could destroy a gt with little effort.

I agree to disagree.......lol. Lets just drop this post i think everyone has voiced there opinion and mayhem i have a 14"FH that is ruthless as they come but i enjoy his presence so i'm not a sicko thats going to eat him. I think anyone who eats large aquatic pets is a freak. Who's gonna be on the dinner table christmas day " your dog"...........

No his dog hasn't out grown it's cage......

hahahaha. bash me for eatin my fish just because im on the opposite side of the fence in this discussion. your funny. and actually i am a sicko but not because i eat my fish. and who will be on my dinner table christmas night is your moms back. think we should still close this thread? and none of the fish i ate had outgrown my tank. i have a 300gallon and have never owned a fish that got too large, i simply ate it because i had noone or nowhere to take them to who could provide them with a proper environment. i have placed many a fish in good loving homes, but the ones who are unwanted are dinner. i think its cool that you got a 14" Fh thats psycho. congrats. :screwy:

, we're on a roll today. Another thread is getting closed. How did the red devils taste by the way. I remember i bashed you for it, but now, i'm on your side. I'd eat a monster fish for sure. :)
