I read up on this cichlid. but i believe the Green Terror just needs a 40 gallon for tank size. But i got a 55 gallon long and i was wondering if id even be a good idea since width is and can be more important than height i believe..also id have a problem judging a Green Terror from a Blue Acara as they are similiar..hopefully you guys can help me in the future with those problems lol:). thnx for the help

a 55 is too small for a green terror once mature they get 12-14 inches witch would make a 55 too small the standard 55 is 12 inches wide so it will evntually be too small.....

Get a female GT, they can be just a beautiful but alittle smaller :]
I have to disagree i have seen females that are 10'' so either way a 55 cant house green terrors a 75 would be perfect for a pair because of the width

I think its pretty rare for a female GT to get that big, it can happen, but it more than likely wont. And if it were to get that big it would take a a long time, long enough to upgrade or rehome the fish IF it gets that big. I've had my female for 3years now and shes pretty much maxed out at 6ish inches in a 150g with a diet of NLS, with two 70% water changes a week.

A 55 long would be fine for a single commercially bought Gold Saum a.k.a. Green Terror.

Find a male, they are much better looking.
their bodies and fins will be longer and have orange around the edges of thier finnage.

BTW, I have been in the hobby a long time and have never seen a 14" GT.
I don't count the tail fin, but I still haven't seen one that size.

GT's are a lot of fun and beautiful, good choice.

i have only seen a 14'' and 11'' gt pair once my friends old pair was 7 years old and thats how big they got and it is normal for a male gt to reach 10''-12'' easily and yes it does take them a long time to achieve this size as they are relatively slow growers... i was just saying because he didnt state he would upgrade

i will not be upgrading..im not gonna bring the age card into this but im 16 and i live under my mom and step dads house so its there rules so i wont upgrade..but thank you for answering so im gonna assume though a GT is plausible but isnt advised..but what could go in for life? could firemouths work? or even idk something like convicts cause my biology teacher breeds them and he has some babies right now so if i ended up getting convicts it would be june..since when my school ends but anyways can you say how many firemouths/convicts could even be in a 55 gallon long..but i also do not need breeding so convicts i believe would be more of a issue..can you guys clarify what could even go in the tank! thnx =)

You cud go with convicts but they will breed like crazy if u get males and females they will also becom really aggressive wen breeding... You could also go with salvini's...not too familiar with severums but they could work

imo firemouths would be perfect. get about 6-8 juveniles if possible and add a dozen or so platys, some plants, driftwood etc and you'll have a really nice looking and active tank :)
