From what I am hearing in your posts, it seems you like the colors in the green terror correct? If you have a 55 gallon to work with and you want color and action then you may want to consider some basic africans. Petsmart usuallu has an assorted african tank with small 2 inchers for about $6 and you could do about 8 in a 55 gallon for quite awhile. Give them enough hiding places and you might get some babies after awhile but you can always give them back to a pet store if that happens. Africans aren't too hard to care for and are colorful and active, they can be (often are) aggresive fish but in larger groups the aggresiveness is spread out. Add lots of hiding spots and it would be good. A lot will max out between 4-7 inches, some won't get that big. Look thru the african forum for more ideas. My avatar is an orange blotch peacock, he's about 4 inches now on the body, he was 2 inches in July when I bought him.
If you want to stay with south/central american fish then I like the German blue ram for color and size. You could easily have a colony of 8 in there for awhile with some other fish, they will probably breed as well.
