I agree, male GTs shouldnt be housed in a 55g for life. I personally would get either a nice sized EBJD, Salvini, or a small group of dwarf pikes.

I wouldn't put a GT in a 55 unless it ends up being a grow out tank. Have thought about maybe getting an ebjd, they are perfect for 55s plus they are beautiful fish if properly taken care of.

yea i looked at them but i seen the care for them and it tends to look like overall water filtration to even maintain it from passing away :irked:

i agree they are also less agressive and tend to stay smaller.... they also grow really slow and tend to die at young ages if you buy one makes sure its over 3''

yea thats another thing is they die early in there lives..but i heard jack dempseys are more easier than the electric blue counter part but are more big and only need 40G..but i also read EBJDs need 40 to..but should i not have any other fish with it or have it a single cichlid..but i do know what you mean by everyone saying a 55G is fine..but i have seen big GTs but if i did get one id be a female..

i wouldnt get a female they can big also and they tend to lack the color the males have.... ebjd would be perfect go for one and add some dither fish and you have yourself a nice tank....

If properly cared for ebjds will not die young in most cases. Yes they require more care than most cichlids but if you take a little extra time, maintain prestine water quality and feed plenty of plant matter you should fair pretty well. In my opinion if you put forward the effort most likely you will be successful.

There are a few different types of dwarf pikes, most of which grow no larger than 6".

Crenicichla notophthalmus

Crenicichla compressiceps

Crenicichla regani

are a few that I know of, there maybe more but Im no expect. You can google the names and check out the details of them as well as pictures.
