Green Terror Questions

I recommend dwarf cichlids such as Convicts, Sajica, Cutteri, Salvini or Rams. If you want a mean little son of a gun go with Neets. I feel fish like Green Terrors, Jack Dempsey's and any fish that can reach 10+ inches should be housed in an 18" wide tank so they can comfortably turn around.

By going with Convicts, Salvini or Cutteri you could actually keep 2 of these species in your tank plus some dithers like a school of tetras or barbs and have a much livelier tank than just a single Green Terror.

No problem. Just remember people, any fish can be the exception to the rule.

Also to the OP, if you really want a GT, try and see if your parents would let you get a 75 gallon tank. It's the same length and height as a 55, but is 6"s wider and would accommodate a GT far better. If you wind up with one that gets to that 10-12" mark you'll have the tank to house it for life.

Now if a 55 is the absolute biggest tank you can get, then I suggest the dwarf cichlids I already suggested. You could keep Convicts and Salvini, Cutteri and Convicts, Cutteri and Salvini, etc. and have a very active tank. Not to mention, they're all very pretty fish.

Its not they don't get over 8". It is that most people don't get them past 8" or end up selling them before they get bigger. Like I asked before. How many people who is giving advice have a GT over 8"? If I am incorrect on this than I apologize.

I am giving advice from my personnel experience. I am one of the few people here who keeps more than one GT. I happen to have 4 male GT s ranging from 7 to 10 inches. The most important thing about these fish is proper diet, temperature, and clean water. A male GT if your lucky can get up to 10 inches. I have only seen two male GT close to 12 inches. If people are basing things from size than a Jack Dempsey should not be kept in anything smaller than a 75 since they hit 10". GT are not like Oscars that get to 12 " in a year and any one can raise one. If you read the many discussion on this board. GT are one of the harder cichlid to keep.

A GT will be just fine in a 55g for at least a couple of years.

yea im thinking im gonna skip the GT and get a EBJD possibly two..if not only one and ill do a couple firemouths..with a pleco of somesort..and a catfish..

i have a Green Terror along with the others. my GT is a slow grower but he holds his own, and actually chases around my Pacu... LOL LOL its funny cause the pacus is like 10 times his size... one Green Terror would do fine in a 55 with frequent water changes, i wouldnt put anything else in there because it just wouldnt be enough room especially if its a male, but they are great to have and are really colorfull. Good Luck!

"edit" i just read your last post. i would also suggest on medium sized catfish, one that doesnt grow to big, Catfish are awsome when they are alone in one tank by themselves. When i was young i kept a albino clarias catfish alone in a 55 for about a year and a half with black background and it was just awsome, what a great fish, its to bad they are banned in most of the U.S.
