I WOULD SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND JUST GET AN UV AND YOUR DONE I LOVE MINE

Thats true I said clean gravel which I am sure is loaded with junk but in planted tank where this can happen again your idea is best.

Get a UV and be done with it once and for all . High phosphate or not UV keeps water crystal clear

Also, you'd have to cycle your tank again if you took your gravel out and cleaned it. I'd just leave it in place and get that UV sterilizer. It sure worked well for me.

There is some of the WORST advice I have ever seen on this thread...Be careful what you choose dude....

lol, my tank was like this for a month. i did three 75 percent water change evey four days. today i got tired of dealing with with it and did a 100%, cleaned the filters, and took out my black sand. So far so good. check out my link http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185961

I think its the substrate that making it green. my suggestion is empty it and clean it all up.

I agree to just vacuum it and not take out the sand or substrate.

I have flourite gravel so i dont really want to take out all the gravel or vac it. This is going to be a CO2 planted tank once i order the Re. Is a UV ok to have with plants and all? or will it just be something i turn on every now and then.

The green water is finally gone :) just left the lights off for the week and it was dead thanks
