Growout, with Intent to sell?

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it's a pretty common practice even if people don't always do it intentionally.

As long as you find them a proper home, why not?

If you have a 180, why not get a black arrowana? They cost more and are harder to find, but it should not outgrow your tank. There are likely knife fish options, that aren't as large as clown knifes.

both those fish get too large for a 180, black aro get 3-4' long and won't have room to turn around
oops wrong arrowana :(

I think you might be able to house a Scleropages jardini (Australian) in a 180 for enough time to make a decision to keep it or upgrade.

Certain things sell as adults, certain things do not. An adult silver arowana will not sell as well as an adult black arowana (or asian).

Get a bunch of clown loaches and sell them 10 years from now when they're massive.

I'm not into Clown Loaches. I'm a cichlid and oddball kind of guy.

everyone seems to concur that Clown Loaches are the bet. at a LFS that I frequent a bit has 2 large Clown Knife for $30 and it has been there for 2 months now. Silvers, I could not get rid of mine when I had them for $50 each. I do agree, a black will sale but there isn't enough margin to warrant.

I see nothing wrong with raising a fish to a certain size and asking for the $$ you've put in.
Ultimately, though the fish hobby is meant to be enjoy, you'll grow attach to the fish, and eventaully find the home it needs. :)

good luck..

they are "odd" but I meant it more in the oddball section one most online fish stores, like bichir, aro's and other out of the ordinary fish. I have nothing against Clown's (well humans demon clowns scare me so I hate them) they are just not for me.

I agree.. silvers and clowns are commonly found "tank busters" and can be hard to re-home. I've seen a few at the local shops that sit for a long time. I was able to sell my silver at abit over 12" and that was a good size to find him a good home. go with something abit harder/more desirable. unless large fish of these species around you are hard to find.

Have you ever kept them? They have really weird behavior and great personalities. You should give it a shot. Plus you can sell them for serious money later on.
