Growout, with Intent to sell?

You going to spend more cash on feeding the fish than what you got it for.

I know, I'm fine with that.

I get too attached to my fish to grow them out to sell. That's just me though. I could never grow my oscar or parrots out and sell them now. I love those buggers.

I'm planning on doing the same thing with a puppy. I only like them when they're tiny and cute, and after that, I'm sure I'll find somebody to take him.

You asked for opinions, but usually when people qualify their initial post by saying they don't want a flame war, it's a nice way of saying they are only interested in hearing from people that agree with them. The one guy that said he frowns on it, you dismissed. Then you gave several reasons supporting the practice, so obviously you've already thought about it and decided it's acceptible. I'm not a fish crusader or anything, I've eaten thousands of them. But if you're gonna do it, just go ahead and do it, no need to seek validation.

I didn't dismiss Darth, I voiced that I don't agree with his reasoning, comparing fish to human kids IS silly. I absolutely believe that keeping fish is for my, our, your entertainment, otherwise nobody would keep fish, I'm certainly not keeping them because I can give them a better life than in the wild. His post was at least his opinion on the subject. Now you post on the other hand, has no merit to the subject, and you are the reason I said I wasn't looking for flaming, people like you that are just post negative messages that do not benefit the subject.

As for not accepting reasons for not doing it: Becoming attached, fish health, not being able to find them a good home...are all valid points, points I took under consideration. So whats your point in posting?

Thanks, that's my Jacky Boy.

I think his comparison of Fish to Puppies works just as well do you give away a puppy after it's outgrown its "cute" factor or if its a Mastiff you sell it when its a year because it's gotten too big?

I do think that is a valid point Darth, at least partly. I will admit I do not know the intelligence of the fish in question (Clown Knife or Aro, If you know please let me know) but I would have to assume that it also doesnt compare with a dog, as a dog can really be destroyed and miss a person if its given away, I think a fish is more stressed by change in environment. Yeah my Jack shows me that it recognizes me, and I do often compare him to a puppy, and I would be devastated if something happen to him, I'm pretty sure than as long as he is in a fitting environment and being fed he'd be happy. But if I raise a Clown Knife to 12-14" giving it a good home, and I am able to sell him to someone that needs a big fish for there already set up big tank, or give/sell it to my LFS which has large aquariums for large fish they sell and display, I don't think it is going to mentally scar the fish. That said, I am very attached to my Jack, and can't even fathom giving him away, so I doubt I will ever grow a fish with just the intent to sell, but its good to see the pro's and cons of any subject.
