If you have a 180, why not get a black arrowana? They cost more and are harder to find, but it should not outgrow your tank. There are likely knife fish options, that aren't as large as clown knifes.

both those fish get too large for a 180, black aro get 3-4' long and won't have room to turn around[/QUOTE]

Show me a 4' aro please

I frown upon it, I find it irresponsible to take in something you have no intention of keeping long term...It's like saying I want a kid but once it turns ten I'm going to abandon them and let someone else deal with him....

Only keep a fish if you intend to do whats best for it not for your own enjoyment and then dump it at your LFS's door when you cant care for it.

Jardini and African Aros will be fine in a 180gal for life and your BGK will be fine in there too, plus there are TONS of Gymniformes that wont out grow your 180 and also there are lots of Morymids too look at your options of small alternatives before you go "intent to sell"

I find it very disrespectful for you to compare the human race to fish. Compare apples to apples, not diamonds to mud.

I'm not trying to argue, since I'm getting ready to leave work for the day, otherwise I would love to, but I don't agree with your logic. First comparing fish to human children is silly, I wouldnt keep my kid locked in a cage all day, even though sometimes I'd like to. Second, Fish keeping is 100% for my entertainment, yes it should and needs to be done responsibly an humanly, but why the heck would you keep fish if they didn't entertain you? I would not "dump" the fish off at a LFS, I would sell it, or give it to MY LFS which I know and respect, its not like I would leave it in a bucket on petsmarts doorstep.

I have seen lots of large silver aro's in my area but never have seen a 4' one yet. Maybe in the wild? or a large zoo tank?

Edit your comment, I didn't say they get 3-4'. Don't make me look like I'm giving wrong info. No aro has hit 4' and silvers are the only ones that come close tothe 3' mark

I see nothing wrong with raising fish with the intent to sell.
1). Some can take care of baby fish better then others. ( More time dedicated to sensitive fish)
2). Instant gratification on the one acquiring the larger fish.
3). Supply and demand for larger fish.
4). Some can house monster fish and some can't.

So, IMO, it helps everyone. The fish, the buyer and the seller.

I am not saying you are giving the wrong info :chillpill:! I was just making a comment. Not trying to stir up anything at all. So please dont take offense.

I would love to own an aro but with only a 210g 72x24 footprint, I would not dream of keeping such a majestic creature in such an environment.

It was a simple observational comment. Sorry creepyoldguy, again no offense meant.

47 inches. 1'' shy of 4 feet.

None taken, and wasn't trying sound arrogent or ignorant. It's just that aros sometimes are confused with some of other type of mythical beast such as loch ness, that grow 10ft long. HAHAAHA (Hope that helped you sense my sarcasm lol :). I'm an idiot, I know)
