I don't care how many "happy" Odoes "your friend" has. I don't care if a "mod" said CK only get to 2 feet. Key word here "TYPICAL".
That's your problem you don't care of others opinions-you believe what you want and shut off other options. Why even mention a fish if youv'e never raised it?
BTW-I always house my fish in tanks that are not the minimum but I double it!
That I think we all agree on the bigger the tank the better.
But comparing Odoes to Oscars is kind of far fetched!

ive had a silver arowana fine in a 10g...doesnt mean its right is it?
I'm not insulting anyone. It's a proven fact that our tanks are no where near as beneficial to the growth of fish as thier natural habitat. We as hobbyist suck at reproducing thier enviroment...... I'll be honest. I suck at sugarcoating things. I am an honest person.... May seem harsh to those who have a problem admitting the truth, but if you don't enjoy sugarcoating things to make them sound all pleasent, warm and fuzzy, you might actually get a chuckle out of the brutal truth.
I do have an opinion, yes. BUT am I the one that is sitting here saying that since I can't get a CK past 2 foot that everyone else is wrong? Are you sure I am the one shutting down other's opinions?
Try contacting zoos and public aquariums and ask them why all thier CK never grow past 2 foot? Chances are they are probobly going to tell you they grow larger than 2 foot.
Nope, I have never seen your tanks. Never said I have. But if your knives are not passing the 2 foot mark then I (IF IT WERE MY FISH) would think there's a problem, rather then assuming it was perfectly "normal"
And YES. I have raised a CK. I gave it a crappy beginning... Small tanks and cheaply fed most of it's life. It topped out around 2 foot. I had it in a 1000 gallon pond. That did NOT matter cause it was the upbringing that I believe was the cause.
There's an old saying.... You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl...... I take this as the fact that if there was something improper about the upbringing of a fish then despite the home it dies in it may still have encountered something along the way that affected it's growth as an adult.
I think this is turning into nothing more than an arguement of standards.
High standards..... Fish not growing properly = something's not being done right. Maybe I just need to lower my standards, agree that fish in captivity should only grow to half the size they do in the wild and see my way out of the conversation.....LOL

I agree about the ck's only because you can see pics of them over the 24 mark all over the net. But most of the other fish named like hujeta, if there is no proof that they get that big then maybe just maybe they do not. I have a few and they all but stopped growing past 10''. And if I ever see a hujeta that is 26'' or what ever I will feel like I have failed at keeping them.
