Oddballer do you know the difference in purses between boxing and MMA?

unfourtunatley i do...... but mma shows are catching up.... filling up larger arenas.... and fetching higher $ for seats (more so in japan)..... the biggest difference is in the endorsements from the large corps. and sponserships.......

you know how many "common fish" i sell in comparison to "monsters"? same difference.... its the mainstream.... dosnt nessisarily mean better.... damn i gotta learn how to spell........

The weird thing is, MMA in a way is more mainstream now. It's presented as more of a circus show than a professional sport. Boxing is presented in the same way as other professional sports, they don't really need to present it like a cross between a TV show and a circus.

No disrespect to you, but I do see MMA as more of a casual fight fan's choice, for people who just want some well presented entertainment, and a bunch of fights on the same night. Similar to wrestling really. Where as most boxing fans I know are very much fight enthusiasts and appreciate the sweet science.

The viewing figures are catching up a bit - the purses are not.

And honestly - until they do - all the top talent is going to stay in boxing. Why would they train to fight in MMA - a world class boxer earns millions, a world class MMA fighter earns thousands.

Here are the figures for UFC 63

That's just a joke. Pride pays a bit better but still not close to boxing.

Do you know mayweather is getting at least 8 million for his fight with oscar, and oscar is getting 20 mil + with the PPV revenue?

The difference in earnings is astronomical, and until they start paying top dollar, they won't attract top dollar talent.

Actually a friend who is a boxing journo just told me this

"Floyd's getting somewhere between $10-12 million, unsure of PPV upside. Oscar's reportedtly earning in excess of $25 million, though as Neil suggested, the real story is more likely that he's splitting a much larger share on the side with HBO."

i need to box

I'd box you ****less zachary.

Baller - Morales and Pacman are splitting 6 mil and they are superfeatherweights, not a mainstream division at all, and neither of them are American.

They are each earning significantly more than the combined purses of any UFC event ever.
