I have had a pair for a year now. I have kept em before but got a jag pair so got rid of em. Im currently trying to breed em. and the females have olive green on the body and males r more iridescent in color.
I still don't see what u are talking about concerning olive green?
U mean the color is not as intense??
You don't think the fish in that pic has intense iridescent color???
Look how bright the red is in the caudial fin....

Yeah i mean intense. and i know how bright the red is but im talkin bout the body color. im not tryna argue or anything but different ppl have different opinion. i can be wrong or u can be wrong. Since u have been breeding them for a while can u help me? The male always chases the female but not harming her, but i've never seen em courting they just swim around (not together). they r both same size 5 inches. Is it the female size cuz i always see smaller females more then similar sized.

No problem! I got ya! I have been in this hobby for 35 years I have found the smartest aquarist is the one who never stops listening to other people's opinions!!!

In my observations females that same size or close will chase the males when they get ready to breed. I had a 8 inch female kill a 10 inch male once at breeding time! All of my breeding pairs the females were at least 2-3 inches smaller. Look at your pic and look at the orginal post Mattty put up...See the more soild color formation in the lower jaw/cheek area in your fish. The other GT doesn't have it. Same thing can be said about Jack Dempseys. Also look at the coloration in the scales. Females have a row of iridesent scales followed by a row of scales that lack that dark pigmentation that the males have.....The smallest pair I ever spawned as a 8 inch male and a 6 inch female..... Stalesbergi I don't see that difference on the jaw/cheek area. I spawned Stalesbergi at both large 8 inch Male 6 inch female and small 5 inch male 3 inch female.
Those who have spawned them at a smaller size could have different observations than me..
Hope that helps and if anyone else has something different than lets hear it! Always love to hear different peoples observation!!!! That is how we learn!!!

The best way to know for sure is to vent. Not all males get the hump. and i have seen females just as bright color and long finned as males. Back 20 years ago you go diffently observe male and female this way but now day venting the best way.
