Those are either saltwater, or their owners have to take a lot of time cleaning it out. Malaysian trumpet snails and some fish can help move sand around, but when you get that much sand it deffinately requires some maitanence. Go with around 1-2". Great look and it can be managed easier theng gravel imo.

Those are probably huge, display tanks. 5" of sand is a pain, even 1" is too much. Debris can get trapped in the deep sand which can harm the fish. Just take out a few scoops of sand, it really isn't hard.

yah once i get the python tube im gonna be doing sand vacumeing ALOT

You can't vacuum sand like gravel, the sand will get sucked up right with the water. That's why it's recommended to keep such a thin layer, the debris sits on the surface and you vacuum that up.
