Very true indeed. You figure if thse fish were in the wild they would be eating what ever they could...regardless if it is a guppy or a juvenile Asian Aro.

Personally, I use Platys as feeders.

What I don't understand is why certain members are against live feeders. Don't get me wrong, you have to try to give the fish a varied diet, but if your rasing healthy feeders for your fish and gut loading them, then I don't see the problem.

It just boogles me that there are people who buy predatory fish, but are against the idea of feeding live fish to them. The fish we buy eat other fish and anything else they can fit in their mouths.

I personally hate feeding live anything... but that is not the reason i don't feed live fish.. there is absolutely no reason to do it when they can get such a varied diet from store bought foods.. with all the added vitamins etc.. it is so much easier and more practical then doing live.. i have my fish eating protein and veggie matter and you can feed all the others in the tank the same thing the same way... but i quess what ever is good for the individual is what works..

Ever looked at the ingredients on processed fish foods. Fish meal (common ingredient) is ground up fish. How is it any different from feeding live. I'm sure its a better way to go than being ground up with a few thousand of you buddies

I'm VERY pleased that you had a change heart and decided AGAINST using them as feeders LIZ!. & you're so right about their brilliant colours (they should come with a health warning, WEAR SUNNIES!)

I never had a change of heart Dawn.. i had no choice in the beginning because thats how the LFS fed the fish i bought.. believe me i couldn't wait to be able to stop feeding guppies.. or anything live for that matter..even meal worms bothered me.. all my live eating fish are all happy now eating dry or frozen and that makes me happy too.. yes guppies are awesome.. :D Sometimes with keeping these large fish you have to go with the flow until you can undo all that the last guy did... when i first bought my older jag he just flat refused any food other then live.. well eventually he had his very last live fish.. :D

Very true...fish meal is also the "left overs" once the parts suitable for human consumption are removed. Granted some fish like herring & pollack are used specifically for this, but no matter how you dice it, no pun intended, a fish somewhere is losing its life to feed another fish.

To tell you the truth, I don't feed live very ofted...but I don't see a valid arguement for absolutely not feeding live, as long as they are disease/parasite free and what not.
