I'm surprised people took the time to snap a pic of the crocodile but never took the time to get rid of it or at least rehome it

This is true, especially when you consider it takes about the same amount of time, effort and equipment to do either :duh:

Really? Well I shot several rounds through a .50 cal prone last month (not bolted down) and my shoulder and I are still here to talk about it. ;) It helps that the gun weights 30+ pounds though.

I was going to say something, but what do I know?

Any production .50 BMG has the recoil equivalent of a 12 guage shotgun.......Having a 6" muzzle break helps.........Some of the garage built .50's are absolutely atrocious, and you really have to ask what they're trying to accomplish? But I digress............

Didn't read the article huh? Nobody ( again NOBODY ) has been able to get close with any kind of capture equipment..........Taking a picture is one thing, and it doesn't take any kind of equipment, effort, or time, to do so...........You just need a camera and luck........

Didn't read the sarcasm huh? Sorry, I should've added a helpful smiley for the sarcastically impaired :duh:

LOL. Very true, I don't disagree. I certainly didn't think that it would blow the shooter away. But it can be pretty beast some times, and inaccurate.
If you REALLY want to kill something with a 50 caliber do it, and take pics of the after math. Please.

from wikipedia:
The largest captive crocodile alive in the US is located in South Carolina. In June 2002, Alligator Adventure introduced Utan. At 20 feet (6.1 m) long and weighing in at more than a ton, "Utan", the largest crocodile to ever be exhibited in the United States, made his new home in Myrtle Beach.[16]
It has been a couple of years but i have seen this guy in person. And yes he is huge. A real Monster.

They said he's actually the 2nd largest croc in captavity.

And i believe they said they traded some albino gators to get him. Well that's what i remember them saying.

Since crocs and gators get slower with age wouldn't that mean that they would be looking for slower, easier prey to get?

It's rare to see a healthy and slow croc, even an old one. With in strike range, a croc is faster than a big cat could ever dream of being.

:iagree:the animals that you recognize as extremely dangerous are never the ones that kill you. but the crocodile you underestimate is ALWAYS going to prove you wrong, and you likely won't get a second chance when that happens. something for LP to think about as well...

50 Caliber Barret is an anti-tank gun, if it hits you or anything for that matter there will be either a VERY big hole or nothing at all. And even if it misses you the bullet has a air bubble that's pretty big, and will rip your face away from your skull. NOT to mention that the recoil is so bad that you have to BOLT the gun down. If you shot the croc with it you wouldn't be able to tell whether or not it was Gustave.

Over all I would advise against using a 50 caliber. :grinno:

P.s Sorry a little late, you guys kinda moved on from the 50 cal but I wanted to throw that in there.

LMAO!! I love Internet rumors. I've shot many a Barret, in bolt action and semi-auto. The rifle is so heavy that the recoil is virtually non-existent. There is no need to bolt the rifle down, either.

And same thing with AKs. A 7.62x39 round is not going to bring down a giant croc, unless you get an amazingly lucky shot.

Lepisosteus platyrhincus, I see you're local to me and are into firearms. Have you checked out PAFOA? Great local Pennsylvania firearms group.

See ya!

Chris

+1. The Barret .50, although heavy and cumbersome is designed to be carried into, and used on the battlefield. Why would you need to bolt it down? How could you bolt a gun down to sand and dirt? LOL. They have bipods on them for a reason. And good luck taking down a huge croc with an AK. They fire slugs that are the same size that many people use to take down deer, and they don't always kill the deer on the first shot either LOL.
