can you point us to contrary information? that was just a quote from a philly research doc.

it just that the news continues to report many kids passing away who are otherwise healthy in a shorter period (pre-flu season) than during reg. pre-flu season.

granted there are 1000's more who die from reg. flu-related illnesses (underlying health conditions) than the from the H1N1 espec. the elderly.

thx

"From October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007, 73 deaths from influenza in children were reported to CDC from 39 state health departments and two city health departments."

Sorry for it being black.

Those numbers are from something CDC set up in 2004 called the "Influenza-Associated Pediatric Mortality Surveillance System". Please note, this is a voluntary thing, and not all states are participating in it. It is relying just on those who

A: Know about the program
and B: Actually report it.

Also, it should be noted that this is just the US. Worldwide, the Influenza kills 36,000 people per year. If you want, I can do some more digging to see if I can't find stats on infant mortality for the seasonal influenza.

thks, this is good to know. I know so many with infants & like the general public it's 50-50 among parents.

but it may go to show that the vaccine is generally a good thing vs. the risk of not having it - whether it be the regular or H1N1 virus. it's just seems the H1N1 is more virulent in the limited cases it hits.

so another perspective is this - the #'s contracting H1N1 is much smaller than reg. flu - at least in comparison in prior yrs where 1000's have died from reg. flu related illnesses. but the % of those contracting H1N1 who are kids who have died over the total who catch the H1N1 is more prevalent.

H1N1 kids death
---------------- = ??
total H1N1 cases

also, do you think there are stats that show deaths that still result even after they had the reg. flu vaccine - note, it must be in our system for 20-30 days to be fully effective.

since the H1N1 vaccine is fairly new to market, the #'s would be insignificant (note, for kids <10yrs, they must get a 2nd dose 30days later)

This is why I hate media.

You sound educated. I am going to assume you have taken stat classes before, or at least are familiar with stat. If you are, you would know that numbers are so easy to manipulate, and that it is extremely hard to come across unbiased data.

Closest I could get you. This shows death rates for H1N1:

i wouldnt really believe all the hype the media is saying about the h1n1. i know some people who had it and said it wasnt all that bad. i wouldnt take it. i've done lots of research on it. the name of the company is baxter. a few months ago i believe in feb or april. they got caught with contaminating the vaccine with live virus i think it contained the h5n1 virus or whatever but it was a bad virus and they sent it out to 18 other countries. they already got caught once back in 2001 i believe for contaminating some meds...look it up. remember how it all started in mexico? well guess what? baxter has a lab in mexico about 120 miles from the first woman who got infected. coicensedence? you be the judge. every year about 30-40k people die from the regular flu. yet they never declared it a pandemic or a national emergency....but yet i would say no more than 200 people have died from the swine flu and now there gonna trip and declare it a national emergency? makes no sense right. nobody has to believe me. all im saying is due some serious research before injecting something into your system. if you smart you should know by now that you cant really trust the main stream media. you should know the pharmacy is all about money.

Uhhh, dude? They do. Every year, the seasonal flu is considered a pandemic. However, the majority of the public do not own dictionaries, and therefor do not know that a pandemic is merely an infectious disease that spreads worldwide. In today's day and age, nearly every new infection is a pandemic.

i dont think you know what your talking about dude. the seasonal flu is not considered a pandemic. the last pandemic occured in 1918 that killed millions of people millions.

you should check out this link and educate yourself a lil more:

Dude, really? This isn't one nasty bug, this is media hype. The common flu is so much worse then this....43 or 44 kids in two weeks? The common flu KILLS 174 PEOPLE EVERY DAY. 115 people die every day in the US due to automobile crashes, 3000 people every day worldwide. 1221 people die every day due to a heart attack.

People really need to stop kirking out on the H1N1. It is NOTHING.
ur right man. all media hype. i got the h1n1 nasal mist purly because i dont want to bring anything home to my wife. thats it. and IT SUCKED

Aw shucks. Maybe you should have actually read the link first? From YOUR link:

"Once the disease spreads beyond the borders of several countries and affects many countries across the globe, it is called a pandemic. In the last century, several pandemics of influenza occurred – the biggest one in 1918. During the 1918 pandemic, at least 500,000 Americans died, estimated deaths worldwide numbered 10 million."

That says:

A) Exactly what I said above
B) The BIGGEST one was the one you mentioned.

Since I'm at work atm, I can't get too involved with research. Therefor, I just did a quick wiki search. The link below talks about the last notable flu pandemics. Please note, it is merely notable ones. Therefor, ones that are only killing roughly 36k per year (I.e. the seasonal flu) won't be listed.

I suggest you educate yourself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_pandemic#Notable_influenza_pandemics

EDIT: More from YOUR link:

"No. Pandemic flu is not a type of flu but is the way the flu spreads. In fact any disease can be a pandemic if it spreads rapidly between people all over the world."

"A pandemic is an outbreak of a disease in many countries at the same time. A pandemic of influenza—or flu—occurs when a new flu virus rapidly spreads from country to country around the world."

Just to toss another problem with the facts in . . . they aren't even testing for H1N1 in my area anymore. They are just assuming that people who are getting sick now have it. I am in the "at risk" group, I am not going to get the vaccine, my doctors won't even see me unless I start having trouble breathing, to that end, they don't want me in the office, they want me straight to hospital. I had a minor fever and a sore throat 8 days ago and now I pretty much feel fine.

lol, sure ANY disease can be pandemic. but the point is. why isnt the seasonal flu consider an pandemic and a major threat? show me where it says SEASONAL FLU is an pandemic flu? because pandemics RARELY happens maybe 3 times in the last 100 years. i dont think you still have an idea what pandemic means. you need to do further research bro.

here read this maybe this will give you an idea of the seasonal flu and a PANDEMIC flu:

http://aids.about.com/od/technicalquestions/f/pandemic.htm

let me know when you can find proof that a seasonal flu is an pandemic threat.
