I would not say that H1N1 is "nothing"
My 22 year daughter had it for 2 weeks. I have never ever seen her so ill in all her life. It was hell for us and she really never got rid of it! Then it turned to Strep. She was treated. THEN yesterday the strep is back, along with MONO.
The most important thing to remember about this virus is that it is a gateway to so much more.
I never got it either. Get the shot if you can. And don't panic.
I agree whole heartedly. I hope she is getting better. You are so right it is a potential gateway to further complications. never heard of your complications associated with flu - either reg. or H1N1.
What I heard was lung congestion/fluid build up, pneumonia, potential collapsed lung, issues with asthmatics & possibly issues with diabetics. not to forget those with more serious conditions (dialysis, cancer treatment, etc.) who are most vulnerable. and does one risk it being pregnant, either taking vaccine or not?
but imagine yours is a 22yr old. imagine tho, some of us with kids under 10 who go thru similar harrowing experience! my daughter at 8yrs. old had hi-grade fever of 105 for 3 str8 days! here we had all sorts of thoughts - could it be meningitis, will the hi fever cause her brain damage, will it cause any organ malfunction, will she go into cardiac arrest, will she wake up...
as a parent it is hard not to panic when you're in the moment. I am for one don't panic with colds or sore throats. but with hi-grade fevers, loss of appetite, sluggishness, some slurred speech, etc. one's brain goes off thinking the worst.
& in the middle of the night, the dreadful thought of rushing to ER!
so, I hope none of you ever go thru what some of us parents go thru. whether you be a parent, a single adult or teenager, we don't wish this experience on you, so plse don't belittle those who have gone thru tough times or worst.
