H1N1 flu shots for our kids + the regular flu shot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I say for those who want to get some protection from the dual flu viruses take it but realize with any meds there are some risks - there will be some who may be allergic or have some adverse effect - minimal, mild or worst effects. espec. with the flu vaccines being cultured in eggs if you have allergies to dairy DON'T TAKE IT! of course everyone should consult their physician & feel comfortable with their advisement.

For those who think their immune system is so healthy & strong & think that if you contract the viruses will develop anti-bodies or if you have any fear of adverse reactions or who think this flu strain is no worst than the reg. flu strain, then I say don't take it. but realize that one can not develop anti-bodies against viruses to protect you over the long run.

to all those who have taken or who have not (so that means everyone) - realize that strains change from season to season - they develop vaccines for the most prevalent strain out there. know this also, for the so called reg. flu virus, the vaccine used 2-3yrs ago is not the same they are using today - for the so called reg. flu virus. viruses are one of the most prolific organisms on this planet that can adapt readily & rapidly. so science must stay on top of this.

the point being is this: every so many yrs. the vaccine has to be changed - so the vaccine can basically potentially be new every yr.

so goes with the H1N1 this year - there is the A strain now.

so if you have been getting your annual flu shots (like the elderly & infirmed do) you have been getting different vaccine strains over time, because viruses change.

will you stop taking it because of this fact - that the reg. flu vaccine can be a new version? or for those who refuse to take it - your point has been reinforced.

food for thought...

I've eaten it and I agree completely. As a 13 year old who has no medical conditions other than an allergy to transition metals, I think i'm safer without a shot. If you're old and have arthritis, athsma, etc. Then it's a better idea.

....and stop going to work when you are sick.

Never happen. None of it.

Get the shot.
You certainly know what side you're on. I respect your opinion, though I disagree.

I'm not a fan of flu vacs, every year it seems like the government comes out with some new pandemic to scare people into getting shots and blah blah blah. I work at a college and they were doing vaccines and a lot of kids got really sick from them. I've always just washed my hands, drink a lot of OJ, and maybe carry around some hand sanitizer, did the trick.

seriously, go watch this video... it's unbelieveable

YouTube- "cheerleader gets a flu shot"
Not to be condescending or anything, but you realize that this is in fact a one in a million case, right? It's not showing what WILL happen to you if you get a Flu shot. It's showing what MIGHT happen to ONE PERSON for every million who get it. There's no such thing as the perfect vaccine, because there will always be mutations of strains and diseases have been known to randomly pop back up.

agreed.

in addition, not all people will have adverse effects & not all people will have a bad reaction.

just like the term hypo-allergenic. it just means the majority, the masses will not be allergic. so goes with vaccines - the majority the masses will not have adverse reactions. but there will be some who will, this is a fact no doubt. nothing is 100% proof.

again, any flu vaccine developed uses the same techniques to produce it. using eggs, millions of eggs. but those not allergic to eggs or dairy products or not allergic to the additives to the vaccines, then the majority should be fine taking it.

but if you're the lucky one that does have a bad reaction, you would be counted as statistically insignificant compared to the total population that have taken it.

so if you have eggs or dairy allergies do not take it. for sure you will have problems. but if you do not have these allergies, then you will part of the statistically significant part of the population who have taken it.

anyone's area still in short supply? our local pediatrician ran out again!! they just had walk in's no apptmts so it was packed. we had reg. well being check up & still they made us wait 2hrs for our exam & then get our share of the H1N1 vaccine! they were treating all the walk ins 1st! that pisses off!
