Or you could say I work for AquaClear (hagen) since that came under fire as well.
I would be the first to say if something didnt work, and replace it with with something that did. When I mentioned I used 2 AC's on a 180 for 10 years, with a moderately stock tank that always had 6- 8 or more large fish in it. Or a close friend has 2 265's running the same filters, zero problems and then have someone tell me Im wrong and it cant be done and my fish would never be healthy - there seems to be a disconnect. Not the end of the world I would say.
As someone mentioned above it all depends on how many fish, water changes etc and I agree 100%. Can never cover all the variables involved. If its over stocked, water changes arent frequent and you feed heavyily, and lets say its all Oscars nothing will be enough LOL
I also agree you can never have too much filtration. That person will have to make their own judgement call.
I would suppose there are those that will say its not enough filtration on my 220 gallon, when all Im using is the Fx5. Its rated for tanks up to 400 gallons, and holds a ton of media. My water is crystal clear, aeration is excellent and the conditions are perfect. I stock 12 fish in all various sizes. Im using it now and its exceed all expectations( quality, fit, and performance) and it dosent leak :headbang2 . But there will be those who say it leaks and its crap or so they heard....again another disconnect and unfortunately the orginal poster has to weed through the B.S to get the feedback they were looking for. Thats they way it is I guess...

"You only really need 1 AC110 (or AC500 renamed) for a 90. I used to use two for a 180 which was more than enough.....and it was full of big fish" :screwy:

So which is it?

I don't think you will find another experienced hobbyist that will agree that 2 AC 500 is enough filtration for a 180 full of big fish. It's just not enough. How about some pics of these set-ups?

So which is it? Which is what? What part is not clear to you? I’m not trying to belittle you but my writing skills are clear and thought out - as I said if it was broke, I would be the first to say so but I never said it was broke....If English is not your first language than I understand then - and I say that not as an insult

You us the word "experienced hobbyist” as if you raised yourself on an elitist pedestal. I now have to ask you how someone such as yourself elevates themselves on such a high plateau in front of their peers? I haven’t passed myself off as the in-house expert and everybody should do as I say - You certainly did more of that then I ever did - In all honesty I would not doubt my fish experience is more comprehensive than yours and most likely you were still being bottle fed, while I was a hobbyist. But since I don’t make a living in it, I could care less on experience (yours or mine), and more about arrogance and common courtesy. Yes, pictures exist (pre-digital camera) and I could flood this forum with folks who use or used AC’s on tanks 90 gallon and higher. And yes that includes 150 to 180’s. Keep in mind I always mentioned there are better units out there, technology has changed. Funny thing is years ago the LFS in this area were using the older Superking power filters (remember them?), so going to an Aqua Clear was a huge improvement (energy). But you haven’t asked nicely and I feel your not deserving (yet) of my time and effort for posting pictures. If you are sincere than I will absolutely post them…. all it takes is to be nice to each other. And if not you certainly can keep the attitude going and I would be more than happy to respond 

I'm just going to ignore all of the nonsense in that last post.

However, "which is it?" refers to the statements in bold. Were the tanks full of big fish or moderately stocked? Or is a tank full of big fish moderately stocked to you?

The point of all this is when you advocate filtering a 180 full of big fish with 2 AC 500's, your credibilty as a source of information is damaged. I just don't want an inexperienced hobbyist to go and stock a 180 with some big fish and filter it with 2 AC 500's. He/She will lose fish. That's all.

PS: there is no pedestal. We all have something to learn.

First off you once again are taking my words from two different answers
and combining them as you see fit :clap

In the span of 10 years of having the tank running I had it filled with everything in between. Oh did I mention that I never lost a fish due to water conditions? Yeah I said that earlier...

I'm so glad that the "less experienced hobbyist" has someone watching their backs - somebody like your self pontificating on how right and experienced a hobbyist you are.

Down here in the states we call that B.S “ing”, not sure what you guys call it but you guys seem to pass a lot of it and believe it 
