I love the noise but I want it cleaner the oscars alone make a ton of mess and the puffer gets feeder crayfish

And were going to be getting a bigger tank anyway so it would be good to have

This is what I think:

For now, just add the fx5(I would recommend an eheim but the cost difference is quite a bit).

For a bigger tank, add a sump, you'll probably want to keep the fx5 to complement your sump.

Meanwhile read up on the sump to see if you or your hubby is up to setting it up.

I have both a sump and fx5 . I know the fx5 would do fine without sump but would have to clean the filter more. Like this cleaning is only needed every month I would think. I clean it every two weeks.

Are the sumps a pain to set up? Because I would probably be the one setting it up

Need to make sure you have the right pump flow combo. Drill tank plumbing it's definitely work and can cost more overall at a point. Fx5 is just easy to go. If you have never done a sump before they take a little to get use to. They always have a little junk in them. Can be a flood worry without right size sump size and plumbing.

So it looks like I'm going for the fx5 then. But is that the best canister out there for what I need?

Fx5 works great. I have 2. Add a powhead to push water and crap to the intake best. Amazon sells then for a good price. They are perfect for that tank and larger. At most filled up cost 300.00 way cheaper than above 600 stupid money
