The best fight was this 8 pound blue cat on my bait pole with 2 pound test.

Most HUGE cichlid here fight hard, much harder than realing in a 12" snapper imo. It has alot to with like my husband said, what obstacles u need to go through just to get the fish near u, avoiding treers, rocks, twigs, plants...all while the fish darting and tangling and pulling ino those things. i had to real in that mayan from 30 ft or so away...it was annoying nad hard.

The bigger cichlids u can get thm bite if they spawning or defending a home. They will bite just out aggression. Poke in the face enough with a lure and youll get attacked.

Perhaps that is what happened . I was catching them during breeding season and than stopped after season ended .
I havent caught a thing in awhile but small talipia and small peacock bass .I go like once or twice a month esp with bad constant rain lately but its been terrible fishing for me .
I see even big mayans but no bite

We caught atleast 3 cichlid this way, just y bugging the nest site, the male usually comes out and snags the lure. Ive also caught a 10" maaguense by just dropping lure after lure after lure in its face by its home. If i go now he will probably be there, i guss its an old guy. I havnet been fishing again cuase yes its been raining so on and off lately and cold for like 4 days then hot.

In freshwater it was a 15 lb northern pike on 6 lb line. I had to beach it because I didn't have a landing net.
I had the exact same thing happen to me, fought him for a while. Luckily he spat the bait when I brought him close and just swam off.

i would have to say a 4 foot barracuda in the gulf...and a 10lbs blue fish in hampton beach, nh. i was 11 tho...but ill never forget it.

Probably a 200lb. marlin on 30lb. line. 250lb. thresher shark on 50lb. line. 20lb. Yellowtail on 12lb. bass outfit.

I love to fish but im not an experienced angler in any sence of the term. But that dogfish gave me a run for my money lol! My dream fishin trips are any deep sea for tarpon or tuna, and a trip to south america to snag some peacock bass!
