Has anyone seen one of these tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have seen one in my College classes We breed tilapia in one of the 500gallon tanks. Except its a circle one not the square however They do have one of these. If the water is clean and clear with good filtration and you don't scratch the Plexiglas. It will stay clear and You will be able to see through it.

i would also recommend getting one that is black so you can see the colors better on the fish. IMO the blue is to light and distorts the color of the fish.

I am considering purchasing one of these fiberglass tanks--the 600g--8' x 4'. How do they look "in person?" Is the window nice and clear? Anybody have any pictures?

I have seen these and a similar product used as holding and quarantine tanks behind the scenes at zoos. Pretty sure the similar product was made by Red Ewald in Texas. They were always set up sterile so I don't recall anything particuarly good or bad about the appearance or the visibility through the glass or acrylic.

I can't say I really liked the blue of the Aquatic Eco product but I could live with it. I think the Red Ewald product was a tan/gray color.

Wasn't there a forum post somewhere about a guy who put one of the Aquatic Eco tanks behind a cutout in a wall?

I think the viewing window is just acrylic so if you take care of it I am sure it is very clear and will stay that way. I would say you could build a tank for cheaper but if you are not a DIY kind of person, than this would be a good option. Not sure if it has places for bulkheads but you could drill them.

I was thinking DIY would be cheaper; but I just requested a catalog from Red Ewald. We'll see how their prices compare. Thanks for that info!!!

I woudn't stop there. I would google "aquaculture tanks" and other search terms and see if you can find something closer.

Really any fiberglass place with a chopper gun can build you something like this. One public aquarium I visited had a bunch of sumps built from large plywood boxes sprayed with a chopper gun. I think they just found a company that made shower inserts and they sprayed them for them. I've even heard of tanks being sprayed by a company that made fiberglass racing shells or something like that.

I'm getting a 405 gallon one to use as a sump. Will take a picture of it when I get it. I don't know where you live, but the company is in Florida, and while the tank is $951.00, I'm paying 494.11 in crating and freight charges to get the tank to CA. The tanks are made some place overseas. I've been waiting over nine weeks for mine (knew I'd have to wait when I ordered it) Ship should have come in this week, so now the shipment has to clear Customs. Of course, I had to have the one tank they didn't have.

Give the company a call and question them. I think it's a great alternative to the more traditional tank, and it makes a large tank more "doable" for some people. Some of the really large tanks (4,000 g) are fiberglass with acrylic on the front only.

Here's another company you can check out. Make sure you check on their warranty.
