I like the idea of promoting this in theory.
In reality, it tends to be the wealthier people that can afford new fuel efficient cars such as a prius better.

I have no problem with signs like this. Don't get me wrong, pregnant and handicapped should still have better spots but people that have more efficient cars should get some recognition.

If these signs help even a few people buy fuel efficient cars then I think they've done a good job.

There are tons of people driving around fuel efficient cars. both wealthy and not so wealthy. To claim a bias towards one, you'd better have some proof on that. There are at least 3 or four Smart Cars in my small neighborhood alone.

To preface my comment, I drive a civic, but I own a gas guzzlin truck.

Without getting political, the goal is to reward those that are making an effort to reduce our dependency on oil and our carbon footprint. I'll never get to park there as I don't have a super fuel efficient car nor am I cool enough to just stick it to the man and park there anyway. Regardless, I'm not going to knock people that are trying to help make a difference.

Speaking of which, you can't get cited for parking in one of these if you don't have a FEV right? I mean, it's not like the handicapped spots that are legally enforced. This is based on the honor system. I'd park there :D

You could get towed. In most cases these are on private property :P

These are for buildings going after a LEED rating. its part of the whole green building thing. They are one of the common and semi easy points to get in LEED ( work at an engineering firm, we do lots of LEED projects ), the number of spots you need to desginate is based off parking lots total capacity.

but what is considered fuel efficient? my truck gets 25 mpg thats pretty efficient.
and i honestly dont think this parking spot is goin to convince someone to buy a prius.

That may be true but everyones family Finances are different I know alot more families that can not afford a new fuel effient car then those who can, I know people that have to make a effort every payday just to put food on their table and if they are lucky they Might get something other then ramen noodles .
Maybe I took it wrong but to me but ....
When you said "Without getting political, the goal is to reward those that are making an effort to reduce our dependency on oil and our carbon footprint"

It sounded like people who can't afford one isn't making an effort or doesn't care which wouldn't be right to assume that ...
