Has anyone spawned Ornatum?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This fish is the most beautiful imo. That guys camera is alot better than my 5mp moto droid lol. Not taking away from his fish at all mine are stunners too just can't capture it with a phone

I know what ya mean , I have been trying to get some pics that are not blurred or a video that wasn't pixled I really need to try and get a reasonable priced point and shoot

Farm bred??

yes farmed, by throwing a bunch into a pond and letting nature take its course in a somewhat controlled environment. I personally dont have the facility or the space for a pond that would need to be large enought to do such a thing. especially since i live in Alaska:) Im looking to see who has bred these fish in the hobby (domesticated) as i believe if and when this is done, i would be more than happy to share my techniques or success with the rest of the hobby to ensure that ornatums and other difficult species stick around;)

Im pretty sure Mel O has a breeding pair.. But i cant remember 100%.. Maybe it was his istlanums.. But pretty sure it was some of his Ornatums that spawned.

Hmm..

I know what farm bred means, can you elaborate on someone farm breeding them? First I heard of it.

Oh lol i should have re-worded my post that said i know their farm bred, cause i dont know anyone that is but what i meant is aside from that possibility who has bred them. i know the topic of fish/wild fish being farm bred is probably a big debate which we can possibly discuss in a different thread because i am curious about that subject as well.

I originally thought he did too but i couldnt find anything stating that. i do know he has bred his Istlanums tho.

To my knowledge, no one has bred these guys on a hobbyists level. Maybe MFK will get the first spawn? :headbang2

If anyone actually finds someone who has spawned them, please post any information, I'm sure many would be interested. :)

From what I gather all the small ones are farm bread IN thee natural water making them "wild" but im thinking the larger are actually just caught in the wild.

Those real yellow ones are real nice too...mine are not that yellow...might have been a product of the camera used. Either way Ornatum is a fine fish...and I how I can get a pair out of the ones I have. If I do I certainly would share what I did.
