Has anyone tried keeping a Largemouth Bass?

i did .... but my blue channel want to eat him :(

Last spring I caught about a 5" LMB. A friend I was fishing with wanted to keep the fish for his aquarium which is only a 45 gallon (he is an idiot). Anyhow almost a year later the fish is still living in the 45 gallon aquarium by himself and he seems to be doing fine. My lazy friend hardly ever does waterchanges either. He mostly feeds the bass feeder goldfish, but will also feed him lizards and frogs that he catches outside his house. He even fed him a live feedermouse once. He is about 8" now and is not growing very much because IMO the tank is small and he doesn't do regular waterchanges. It is a very entertaining fish, however i wish he had a bigger tank to go in. My friend is so stupid that he actually believes that the bass (Arbuckle is the fishes name) needs a friend so he is considering getting some type of sunfish to add to the tank. As far a bass for aquariumfish, they are great.

A sunfish would make a tasty err... great friend.

How big of a tank would you need for a bass? Does the standard 4 times the length of the fish for length of tank, and 2 times the length of the fish for the width apply?

Probably need at least 55. I got mine as a fry (collected my own). He grew up in a ten gallon, moves to a 29 at 4" this weekend. When he reaches 6" then I will put my breeding platys in the 29 and get a 55 for him with some tasty tank mates. Did I say tasty? I meant compatible.

LMB are large fish, a 55g won't work for life. The northern strain can get over 10 pounds and the southern over 20.

True. If they reach full potential, a 125+ would probably be necessary.

One of my local sporting good stores has a 500gl with with 3 18in to 20in LMB they also have a northern pike about 2' and a big bullhead and they all do fine. The bass just kind of staked out a territory and don't really stray to far from it. All they feed there fish is nightcrawlers, baitfish, and leeches. The owner said that is all that they have fed all the fish since they were little. He also said he is planning on gett a 2000gl for them so that will be cool to see the size they get in there. They would be an interesting fish to keep though.

The bass in the local native aquarium are all 5+ lbs, some would probably set our state record. I will be posting pics when i can get a decent camera.
