Healing open wounds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea...would slow feeding down to every 2 days. The only problem will be if that opening goes deep in toward the gut then feeding will need to be held. Hope it heals up. Will keep an eye out. An opening like that past 30 days is what bothers me as mentioned already.

Post ur nitrates cause I don't believe I've seen it posted as of yet.

I'm currently feeding every other day, should I got to every 3 days? Thank you. It started getting better for a week, so I was hopeful, but then as of this week it got a lot worse. It is really troublesome, but I've never dealt with something like this before successfully. My friend from the LFS is going to come over and help me set up the QT today. Going to do nitrates and other water tests today too. and buy the meds.

Dont put any decors in the qt tank, just the sand and if you already have a heater cover that will be nice. I really think that injury is from heater burn, it look the same on what happen to my ornate, just my ornate it happen next to the top of its back.

okay, I won't wash it out in tab water any more or do a deep scrub. Yeah I'm not sure if there's bio media. I mean there are 2 bio wheels in it, and 2 carbon cartridges. It's a Penguin 350. But I am not sure if the biowheels really have beneficial bacteria on them or if they really count as bio media.

P.S. thank you! I want to save the ornate too! yay!

Dont use carbon. It most effective for removing meds. If you have been running it and dosing meds it may have gone to waste. If you can pick up a bottle of tetra safe start do so after you test for nitrates today. Im thinking your filter isnt cycled. The safe start works great ive cycled a few tanks with it. Buy it but dont do anything yet until you get the qt set up. Then we can go over how to best administer the safe start

thanks! sounds good! I bought the triple sulfa and methyl blue today. When I used the prazi pro, I did take the carbon out of the filter. Yeah I'm not sure if the filter is properly cycled or not.

The safestart is a great product. But has to be dosed correctly or it wont work. First verify that you have no nitrates but of not then i dont think its a good idea to subject your fish to the cycling process. Buy the larger bottle i think its around 10 bucks on amazon.com its basically bacteria in a bottle. Have no idea how it acultually works but it does and dont worry about the qt. Main goal is to make sure the main tank gets healthy too :)

How is the wound healing up?

he was really slowing down and barely moving the past 4 days. Wasn't swimming and just sitting on the bottom. I moved him into the QT tank with triple sulfa yesterday. Didn't do the methyl blue dip because he didn't look like he could handle it. He's swimming around and active like his usual self again. Although he is resting/relaxing on the sand too. I think it's too soon to tell with the wound.

here's a video on how he's doing! You guys make me want to do a video update. Haven't quite figured out how to take great videos yet....but here you go! :)

Didn't do parameters of the QT tank,
but Main tank parameters before my weekly water change are:
ph: 7.6
ammonia: 0
nitrites: 0
nitrates: 4

Thats great that the tank is cycled but also kind of sucks. Had it not been maybe we could have assumed it got infected due to high ammonia/nitrites...smh he looks active. Maybe you should pot this in the health and disease section to get alittle more exposure
