i never said there should be free health care just affordable by what you are saying if you or i were fresh out of school and were no longer eligable under our parents insurance and we need medical attention were just screwed
in your mind you separate people by there economic postion im not talking about going to get your hair cut or taking your dog to the vet those are completly diffrent from people being able to get basic health care

So, if health care is a right what other services are a right? Do I have to pay my mechanic to fix my car? What about my vet for my dog's shots? My barber when I get a hair cut?

Health care is a service. We pay for goods and services. What is so hard to understand about that? By the way, I am FAR from rich. Heck I work for an insurance company and I can't really afford to go to the doctor unless absolutely necessary! I am not asking for a handout like many people do. I don't need anyone else to wipe my own...:irked:

There is NO SUCH THING AS FREE HEALTH CARE! For those of you that live in places where you think there is free health care, YOU and everyone else are paying for it.

Acer, your scenario depends on what type of plan your employer has chosen. Some people would be able to walk in and get all patched up and leave, some people might have say a $40 co-pay, some people might pay an "X" percentage (usually 10-20%) and some people may have to pay ALL of it at the CONTRACTED rate to towards their deductible. It just all depends on how much your employer is contributing to your coverage.

I see health care, education, and basic use of infrastructure a right. A country should ensure a healthy, educated population in order to have a sustainability country.

I couldn't imagine have a child with bad asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, etc. What would you do if you didn't have a great job or health care coverage? Why doesn't the child have a right to health, just because it wasn't born privileges?

I can't see health care as anything but a right. I don't consider my health care free, because it is paid for by everyone, but I know that I don't have to worry about getting injured or sick because I am covered. Like I said before, I support my country and take advantage of my opportunities as being a free citizen. If I'm willing to give my life for my country, what is a small portion of my income in order to support myself and my fellow citizens?

I don't mean that in a flowery or flaky way either... as I mentioned before, if I wasn't given rights such as education, health care, quality of living, etc., why wouldn't I just live in the forest? Society is about giving and taking in order to increase your quality of life and potential, relative to life outside of that society.

CBC recently voted Tommy Douglas as the number 1 Canadian in history. His accomplishment? The establishment of Medicare for all. That is how important this aspect of society is to us!

It's called Social Darwinism, it's usually the crux of most debates like this.

Our government does give out health care to people out of school who make very little money. It's called medicaid. Same reason you get a good portion of your check deducted so you can provide housing, food, health care, and spending money to other people.

what about the people who make to much money to get on one of our programs but not enough to afford health care

You mean people like my family? We suck it up, cut back where we have to and just do it. We didnt buy a house we couldnt afford (heck we havnt bought one at all yet). We both drive older cars, we dont have the latest Nikes either.

Nothing peeves me off more then seeing a mom and her heard of kids (no father in sight of course) buying groceries with food stamps and each one of her kids got some $100 pair of Nikes you hear in a rap song on and I am in line behind her with all off brand food/materials with my $20 pair of Walmart shoes Ive had for three years paying cash for my food! :irked:

I do agree with one thing the big O has said about healthcare we as Americans need to be healthier! That is another problem that our country is pretty unique in having that others don't. We are VERY unhealthy. I will say it, its because Americans have the most expendable income to have a TV in every room, a couple of computers, and the money to eat out every night. Obesity and its related problems are a HUGE part of our healthcare costs and that is why per capita we are spending more money on healthcare then other countries. If we were all healthy it would be alot easier and CHEAPER to have healthcare for every one.

Where do you live, nothing's ever free!

Kuwait, we get everything for free and newly weds even get cash money gifts from the government.
free health care, free education up to university level, no taxes and if the country can't take care of you health wise they'll ship you off to a place that can and the government pays for everything, you don't need to waste a penny. :D

You do have it easy there! We have to pay taxes, and the hospitals don't aways know what they're on about! And all the other things we pay for, don't always happen!

yeah, Kuwait is actually a very good place to live
but houses are pretty expensive, they can easily hit 3 million USD or more in some places
