Biggest jag I have seen in person was 16 inch 2 lbs 12.
As far as I am aware the biggest jag caught was 3.5 lbs and 16.5 inch which seems about right.
I personally think tank raised jags are capable of achieving the same size if not bigger than there wild counterparts unlike dovii where I think wilds grow larger then tank raised fish.
Pics are large jags but nowhere near 20 inch.
If I remember correctly I think I read somewhere that jags are Relatively light for there overall size which is why they are so quick and explosive, not sure how that is though.
The bigger a fish gets the weight increases massively. A 2' dovii is easily 8* the weight of a 1' Jag. The biggest I've heard of is Mel o's tank raised at 18" tl.
Not sure where these maximum sizes on the net have come from 24" ect, possibly wild caught but who knows.
Here is the biggest pic I can find, consider fish always look smaller in pics like this as the arm is in the foreground....

Parachromis are lighter than alot of other spp, a 12 inch freddy 580 gramms, a 12 inch trimac 950g. If I remember correctly a 15 inch dovii was lighter than a 15 inch black nasty.
Jags are territorial ambush predators. despite being so bulky and formidable, they still move through the water effortlessly and strike at lighting speed Which is probably a result of their relitively light weight. Nature made them that way. They are carnivores that share the same habitat with bull sharks in Nicaragua. this is what makes them a problem in community tanks with inadequate space, they don’t look at other fish as opponents they look at them as food in there living space. Sorry for ranting I’m fascinated by them, they’re my favorite
