Hello, New to the forum!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
definetly jag is the way to go. u cood even put a jag and a crencichla together (one getting around the size of the jag, of course) I know it sounds like an odd combination but i have a lepidota and a jag in my 125 (got them when i was a newbie and didnt know any better) and now there 6" and 5" and getting along like community fish. Im not sure what will happen when my jag gets larger, but hey i can try. :D

With 900$ you can get a very ncie setup

Imo I would check out craigslist and see if you can find any local tanks around you for cheap. Or worse come to worse purchase a 120gallon from a lfs for around 300$ ( stand will be about 200 ). that will come with everything u need exsept the filter, gravel, etc..

If you are only going to have 1 monster fish I would suggest getting possibly a diy wet/dry or you could buy 2 fluvals or something like that.

I think a jag would be fine in a 95gallon for life just make sure he is healthy and the water is clean

Welcome to mfk and let us know when u decide on what to do :)!

if you have any questions you can pm me I am on almost 10/7 :)

I think I'm going to get a Jag or two and try to breed them. How much do fry/juvies sell for normally? Just wondering.

I dont have to worry about a stand, I'm going to buy the tank first, get the dimensions and everything and hopefully build a stand in my woodshop class.

I'm not sure how to go about doing so though. I want to make it so that is has a cabinet in the middle with atleast one or two shelves for food and such, and assuiming that each gallon weighs 8 point something pounds, 125 gallons of water weighs about 1000 pounds...

This is going to seem like a weird question but, do you think I could put it upstairs in my room? I dont know how old my house is but its two storys. Its more of a loft than a second story though. I have my 35 with convicts in my room right now, wich wasnt that hard to get up the stairs. I just used my ladder to bring the house up to the window and fill it up and then put Aquasafe drops into it.

Im just afraid of my floor caving in and having 1,000 ounds of water, glass, gravel and fish crashing into my kitchen. That would be hard to explain to an insurance company...

Everyone is leaning on the 90-125 gallon tanks.....this kid has 900 bucks!!!i'm saying want ad's and the like, dont blow 900 on a freaking 125!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i live in Mass, and i see ads for 225+ gallons under $1000 all the time!!!!

You may want to check with your dad, or get some blue prints and find out when the house was made, worse comes to worse just reinforce the floor boards. A 120 would be fine for a breeding pair of jags imo. jag's around 1" go for around 2-5$ here dont know the price where u live though.

Thats a very good idea to build the stand in your workshop class but make sure to bring some diy stand plans so it will be able to hold it.

Well I'm going to bed so if u have anymore quests please feel free to pm me or just keep posting here

G-night and G-luck

A 225 would scare me even more. I'm just afriad to put it upstairs in my room but thats the only place there is room.

I cant really get hands on help from my dad as he's in california (My parents are seperated) But my shop teacher could help me out I'm sure as he also works for the Washington Seaport (Where they keep the "Lady Washington" aka Washington states official tallship) and also helps with the Long-Boat rowing team were they rebuild longboats and take them to competitions.

Also, all periods of wood shop are currently building a small boat to be sold at auction, I helped build one last year and actually got to fiber-glass most of the hull and everything.

So, I'm sure he's qualified enough to help me build a stand.

It may take a long time but It will be worth it so say "I built that" I'll look around for blue-prints in the DIY section or if anyone has some good plans for a 125 gallons + tank stand please post it up here!

You have all been a great help and I apreiciate it very much.

Heres a link to a DIY stand or pretty much whatever you could think of.http://www.garf.org/

Also with $900 bucks you could go bigger than 125 if you dont want a 200+ tank you could settle into a nice 180 72 inches long and 24 inches wide and tall. Great tank if you wanna throw a couple fish in there that get big instead of just one. Good luck Craigslist is the best i got a 300 gallon tank for $100 and thats not a typo!

juvi's sell for almost nothing becuase there is not a huge market on them, it's hard for private breeders to make money, not alot of people can keep them as adults, my 14" breeding apir breed constantly, but i don't bother to selll them.

Well if I got rid of my convict cichlids i coud use the 35 gallon as a grow out tank and then sell the juvie or larger jags that survive maybe?

Or I was thinking if I bought a 150 gallon I could get jag and maybe something else?
