Help a newbie I.D. his flowerhorn

well, yeah, it does looks like a male but im not very sure. venting is the best way to do it. and to me males will show more vibrant color, and thought to have bigger kok(females can also get big koks) and size. :) fyi, ive nver seen a red-dragon-like flowerhorn tht has black colors. btw, sure looks cool ! :D
 
Thanks for the compliment! And ya I'm apprehensive to vent him, I don't wanna stress him/her anymore then he alreadty is. But would like to get into breeding so I guess ill have to vent eventually!
 
Yes its my only flowerhorn...for now! And I've always wanted a thai silk so maybe ill probably look around for a female thai to breed him with. And tips or tricks to breeding would be welcomed and appreciated!

yeah, a thai silk is good with yours. will probably produce blue fries. hahah.
yeah, ive nver breed a flowerhorn before, but as wht i know, i would put a divider in the tank. let it be until they start to attract to each other and then remove the divider. observe them while u do this, put a flowerpot in the tank so tht they can lay the eggs. if the eggs are already produce, make sure tht the male has fertilised it. :) ask some questions if u want.
 
Ya ill be sure to divide them at first to let them get used to eachother. I just wish Iknew what sex my fh is. I asked my LFS owner if he could vent it and he sounded reluctant. I know if I do it its still pretty much 50/50 that ill guess correctly beciabecause I've never done it before. Luckily I have three other LFS around me. Think ill swing by one tomorrow and ask.
 
just vent it man, it should be fine. no need to ask the lfs. use ure net and flip it over just for like 10sec. :) a 'V' shape for male and 'U' shape anal for female.
 
it's a male pearly red dragon. or red dragon malau whatever you want to call it.

And his head is deflated. It should be rounded. It'll fill back in and colors will come out once he adapts or the right care is given.
