Help a newbie I.D. his flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im curious to why my male has spotted fins.. And your trying to say his is a male because it does not have spotted fins. My pic disproved that theory right away. Kok size. Bar count, spotted fins.. All mean nothing when sexing.

Saying males have more vibrant color and a bigger kok is also a very poor way to look at it. There are so many different qualities of flowerhorn.

really? u said the smaller one is the male, but i dont see any spots on its dorsal fins though. only the spots on its dorsal fins (upper fins) can indicate its sex, and usually males are bigger than females. it looks like ure female is older than ure male. male koks grow faster than females. :) but if not sure, yeah, venting should do the job.

I hope these pics are enough to prove male/female

it's a male pearly red dragon. or red dragon malau whatever you want to call it.

And his head is deflated. It should be rounded. It'll fill back in and colors will come out once he adapts or the right care is given.

+1

cant really see its anal man, but finally i can see its true colours. hahah if u r too afraid to take the fish out to vent it, then just let it get use to u first. this way, its stress wont last long after u have vent it. btw, u r not in a rush on identifying its sex right? and if u do, take the pic of its anal only. :) tht would surely help a lot.

Well, you are THE animal guy, so you must be speaking the truth. Plus calling him a Red Dragon Malau sounds fancy. So I'll take it! :)
Now the hard task of finding a female
