Help! Atlantic Stingray curling!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I second what ZooDiver said. I originally had an air wand in the tank, but it didn't seem to help much. Once I lowered the water level and all 3 filter outputs were dropping farther into the surface and plunging bubbles about 6-7" downward into the water, she really seemed to perk up and feel better. Also, the taco thing really isn't a HUGE deal unless she's physically shaking or it seems like she's stressfully and tensely pulling into that position. If she's just hanging out like that and seems chill, then don't worry so much. Macy would do it sometimes just for the heck of it but her disc would be loose and relaxed. The rigid tacos were the ones that made me quickly figure out it was the oxygen level.

Also, I want to add that ZooDiver is definitely one to listen to regarding sabinas. Everyone on this forum was a big help to me, but since sabinas are quite a bit different than the true freshwater stingrays and what applies to the true freshies doesn't seem to always apply to these, ZD's advice has been a huge help. Since he works with animals like this professionally, his experience and knowledge is invaluable.

Ya, hes been freakin awesome. And her curling was rigid....bad....stroke like. But its been 3 days and she hasnt done it. I've taken all of his advice and yours. It looks like great advice b/c all the sudden "shes ok" I'm going to keep doing what im doing now....everything seems perfect. The only exception is maybe add another back hanger filter, for more oxygen like you both said.

SHE DIED. THIS AFTERNOON SHE STARTED SWIMMING ALL CRAZY. THEY SHE KEPT FLIPPING OVER ON HER BACK AND BREATHING HEAVY. I COULDNT WATCH HER SUFFER, SO I HAD TO LEAVE THE HOUSE. SO I GUESS I WONT EVER KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH HER. I DID A LAST MINUTE WATER CHANGE TO FRSH WATER, BUT SHE WAS TOO FAR GONE. IM SAD NOW.

just give it to your local lfs

Sorry to hear.

If you still have the body, toss it in the freezer and get ahold of me. I'll talk you through a necropsy and you might have a better understanding of what happend.

Sorry about your loss, u and pink lady. Both the deaths came really suddenly.

Good luck if you get another one... Perhaps a fw ray would be a better alternative.

ya, I think I'll definately get a FW ray this time. one thats really pretty hardy. Something I cant screw up.. I didnt want another one because I tried so hard, and she died so quickly. But I love these guys! So I think I might try one more time....mayb e Motoro? suggestions on an easier ray to keep????
