HELP DOVII Cichlid (bored)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A good size female might do the trick. My 8" dovii hardly came out of his cave before I got him a mate. Now he's the most active fish I own. On the downside you will definitely have to upgrade to a bigger aquarium much sooner. I know its hard but your best option might just be to wait it out. I have kept 3 adult male dovii over the past 10 years and each one of them became much more outgoing once they passed the 13"-14" mark.

The Real question here is what size is your tank......maybe he isn't swimming lots because he has limited mobility? Just a suggestion..... I have my two 5 inch dovii (male and female) in a 240 and they swim all day.....I also had my old dovii who was 10 inches and grew him to around 15 inches in a 180 before I rehomed him...this was years ago... And he was relatively active but as he grew in the tank he became slightly less active due to space restriction I believe....there were lots of other fish in there as well I'm surprised he didnt murder...but anyways what size is the tank.

he is in a 125 gallon tank , he has enough swimming space but only likes to be in the corner of the tank.

that might work..ill give it a shot ..but where to find a female for him

Before trying to find a female, consider what'll happen when they breed or if he decides that having a female is a no-go. I heard it's not fun being up to your knees in fry you can't sell or even give away.

If you have other fish just use the fry as snacks. I would get a 4"-5" female from Rapps. I know he had some a couple of weeks ago. You can visit his website to view his current stock list.

Just looked at the buy and sell forum, and somone is selling a 8"+ female dovii.

I was wrong about the dovii. Torchia32 is looking for one. Sorry about the misinformation.
