Help for my Midas, Please??

And its not possible that there may be some gunk trapped in that filter somewhere? I had a nitrate issue before and pulled a bunch of plant matter out of my impellers on my hobs and the problem went away.

starting to wonder about that, it is insane that the water tests no better immediately after a water change than it does before!! well, maybe a hair better...new test results immediately after water change that we just did, second one today, should I add the prime again?

I changed my angel tank too, just cuz I was already doing Knotheads, and their tank is testing the same way... now how exasperating is that??? Both of them?? I am thinking about taking the carbon out my filters, could that be part of the problem?

Keep up with the water changes.. i had a customer ( great kid actually) that had a similar issue took almost 4 weeks of 50% daily water changes to get his tank back in order. could not figure out exactly why they stayed so high.. my theory is the rocks became essentially encapsulated by nitrates or teh glass ect.. and it takes that long to leech back down. You may try removing most of your gravel since at this point you shouldn't be getting anything from your gravel syphoning, and see if your water quality improves.

Carbon isn't likely the culprit unless you havent changed it in monthes. Carbon will absorb until its maxed out.. then leech back out... so this is a possability if its been monthes since its been changed out. It may be worth the hassle of breaking your filter down the next water change and rinsing everything in the tank water, to ungunk anything. But I wouldn't chance doing any significant cleanings and disturbing your water quality worse. Hes likely not healing at this point becaue of the nitrates... wound won't heal if it keeps getting dirt rubbed into it.

personally the only use I have for carbon is for removing medacation after treating a tank.. i always replace it with bio media. It removes everything.. good and bad in your water.

I understand how you guys feel about the transfer method and waterchanges usually does the trick. However, given her situation I feel that transfering is the best method. How many more waterchanges, how many more chemical treatments? It's just more stressful for the fish in the long run. Quick fix less headache.

You may consider setting up a separate 40-50 gallon tub and letting it sit just incase things don't improve here within a week. Maybe throw 2 feeder goldfish in it. Then at least the water would've been sitting, you'd have to keep an eye on ammonia levels though. I know you're being told a million different things to do.

You can buy stock tanks at tractor supply stores. Or keep an eye out for an aquarium.

No I am going to leave him in this tank. Just thoroughly cleaned filter, and took out carbon. I put in some "Stability", last nite. Haven't rechecked the water yet. Figured I would let the filter get re-situated before I do one. He is acting like he feels better. Whenever I use the mag float to clean the glass he always attacks it. He is back at that and banging his head on the top glass lids. He is an ornery fish. His skin is looking not quite so red. But, He still does not want to eat. Am gonna go get some peas in a little while, see if I can get him to eat those.
