x2. listen to chris... i would also add 25-50% wc daily for the next 2 weeks are what your likely looking at. i would also reevaluate what hes eating before going back to the same pellets that seemingly bind him up... and if you dont have a syphon invest in one or better yet a python. looks like hes in a 55 or maybe a 75. small tank for him. vac the gravel bed over a series of water changes. min he should be getting is x2 50% wc a week imo in that tank. a larger tank should cut that too 1x a week or bi weekly. and by no means should the filter be broken down ect and cleaned... your tanks cycled... just dirty on a water level and the only way to address it in a healthy fashion is by some elbow grease ( water changes)

btw he must be a stunner when hes happy.

I still say a 80% water change will help that fish. I still don't see a problem with a aro in a 20 gallon by him self for a while as long as he did water changes and had a decent filter did he? Probley not

without knwoign the regular water change routine, a massive water change like that could spell major problems with TDS/PH shock... or old tank syndrome... best to be careful, the fish has been threw enough. this thread has nothing to do with arrows.

ps -OP you may want to invest in a small bottle of melafix to use if a secondary bacterial infection attacks... the r water changes should keep this from occuring but imo its worth the 5$ to keep under the tank in a pinch, sometimes waiting until morning can mean the difference from life and death.

Yeah do at least 50% and then check it, would recommend another 50% change in the morning. How big is the tank, in smaller tanks it will build up faster.

He is in a 75 gallon tank. Gonna do a 50% water change now. Will have to wait til tomorrow afternoon for another...alas, work always gets in the way.

And yes, I think he is a stunner when he is Happy!Knothead.jpg

Do you have anything that could be um (for lack of a better word) rotting in there? Maybe some frozen food is jammed up in your filter? When is the last time you changed your media? It's going to be hard for him to get better with the nitrates being so high. But remember not to panic and try a ton of things at once. Stick to your plan. He certainly does not have ich. I would consider adding Melafix, and using 'prime' as your water conditioner for all of these water changes. It's good that he's looking better. Honestly when I had a fish with swim bladder issues that wouldn't eat I just popped a few peas in it's mouth, but we aren't to the point of desperation yet.

The fish is stressed enough as it is, a dramatic change in water condition could shock the poor thing.
