I don't care what any of you say, but that is a baby jag. It is waaaay to elogated to be a midas, festae, uro, or rd.

It's a young RDxMidas you typically find at Petco/Petsmart. Don't know what these chain stores does to their fishes but they change colors at a very young age/size. I'm guessing hormones or something along that line.

I certainly hope he's kidding!
Cause if that's a jag, there are going to be a lot of disappointed people out there that think they have a barred midas/red devil!I know where Petsmart and Petco buys their fish. They only buy from one source. This source has not carried barred midas for a long time.
By they way, the source of Petsmart and Petco's fish has tanks of red devils on the left, baby jags in the middle, and green terrors on the right. I have seen this with my own eyes. Sometimes the baby jags jump into tanks to the left or right, and sometimes the girls who pick these fish accidentally net a baby jag along with the red devils or green terrors. As I said before I don't care what you think his fish is, but in a few months, his jag will look much like everyone else's jag and he will know what he really has. Barred midas, LOL!
Good luck finding a Barred Midas at Petco or Petsmart. So far I have never see any lfs RD/Midas kept their stripes/barred patterns pass the 3" mark.
Optimist, do us all a favor and show pics when your fish gets 5 or 6 in. The pic in post #18, that is a midas. I bet Onefishtwofish didn't get that fish at PetSmart. I don't know why ANY of you would even think that PetSmart would have barred midas available for sale. As I've said before, I know where they get their fish, I live right down the road from their wholesaler, and they let you walk around and see the fish available, which I do at least once a week. Look at the two pictures. How can you say they even look remotely alike? Please tell me why you are so convinced that the fish is a midas. I have listed several reasons why I know that it is not one. Do you or have you ever owned one? I had one that was 13". It looked like the one in post #18 when it was young, and nothing like the first pic.

i dunno if petsmart sells barred midas, i've never seen them there. but i have seen in their "midas" tank, some juvies with bars. even bought one once. and this is what it grew into.

only took about a year. and when i bought this fish, i was so happy. thought it was a redfaced-barred midas.
