Help ID my blue acara/green terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yours has a black line below the eye? I am still interested in more opinions, i am going to stick with these guys and see how they end up.

no his has a black dot on the lower cheek yours has a black line extending from the eye to the lower cheek its a trait of the blue acara, there still great fish though but if you really have your heart set on a green terror (saum) id look into purchasing one from a reputable vendor. good luck

A black line underneath the eye is a trait of both species! It tends to fade, or is not fully expressed on very mature male GTs, but it is still a trait/characteristic of a GT, no less.

Your fish is a green terror, no doubt. The head and body shape is that of a green terror. It has the markings of a green terror----the typical mid-body blotch with the white horizontal stripes on each side of the blotch, as well as other traits. For whatever reason your GTs have very faded body coloration; maybe they haven't completely settled in yet (?).....for that reason it may not be as obvious to some that they are GTs.

I bought them as blue acara, but when i saw them i instantly thought GT. They were around the 1.5" mark and the larger is now 2.5 and the smaller around 2". They have been in around 2weeks so are growing fast and eating loads - more a trait of GT? They werent particularly aggressive to begin with but i had recently rearranged the tank and done a water change when they were taken and i noticed they were being terrorsome to one of my convicts.
I am going to stick with them and see how it goes.

Well the one I posted is about 2" and bullies everything. he particularly hates my chocolate cichlid. but I have a good circle of aggression going right now, nobody gets picked on too much so its good.

I have a pair of breeding cons around 3" they are the boses. And a 3.5" firemouth who tries to be the boss, but cant take on two cons. But with a 180g there is enough room for everyone to get on.

dori2.jpgMy female GT has a black dot that looks alot like a line on her face, also the side markings look like a GT. Thats a GT IMO

Sorry for the pic quality.

Well i originally thought mine was a female GT, due to the laid back approach and the curvature of the fins. I am still unsure, and it is now becoming more aggressive, especially towards the smaller one. Is there a way to limit aggression and alow the smaller one to grow? Dither fish? I will keep youposted abouthowthis one ends up. Thanks so far everyone. Still would like more opinions though :)

any more opinions?
