help - indo dats keeping dying off one by one

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have 36 in a 100 so far no death. i would have to say the water wasnt cycled enough for the live bacterias. also 22 in a 12 thats a bit tioo much stress on the fish. also the filteration was not enough for the 12gallon imo. i think you should listen to ADE and take his advice. he had datnoids for a while. i would have to say one of the datnoid veterans here on mfk. xD. GL with the problem hope things clear up. and no more lost.

I got 8 in a 100g with real good filtration and a good size air stone pad. My temperature is 84 degrees and I'm feeding once a day with bloods wurms a couple of good hiding spaces and there doing great. You should lower your temperature and check your ph also since your tank is on the small side do frequent water changes . Last year when the fry ntts(thin bars) were around I had about 10 and did the same thing as above and all of them lived and are over 4" now. Good luck

thanks for all the help. i witness one last death in the 12 and simply did a complete overhaul on all my tanks to move my dats into a 40 growout for now, until i can find me a new bigger tank.

the death happened when i just did a water change the next morning one was dead, i got fed up and realized that my tank was going into a mini cycle every time i did a water change. so far they are doing good in the 40 gallon right now with a ac50 only since i broke my ehiem canister that was also filtering the 40. my next upgrade on the filter would be a ac110 and probably fix my eheim.

appreciate the help. this forum is nothing but good information and help from others.

I have 20 in a 40 gallon. I had one doa from the shipper. All was fine until yesterday. I fed some live blood worms, then about 10-15 minutes later I noticed one of the dats was breathing heavily, basically gasping for air.... And then was freaking out doing summersalts like he couldnt swim properly, he was fine before the feeding. He died shortly after. Could he have choked on one of the bloodworms?

;) its good that you take on all comments, glad that you finally used the 40 g as a temporary until u can upgrade.
I dont know how effective an AC 50 is, but just to be safe to avoid any mini cycles, i think as long as you have roughly 2-4 litres. of MATURE/SEEDED biologiocal rings/media in your filter, then you should not lose any more tigers (in the 40g) following your water changes.

keep wc to a max. of 10 g per wc.
