Nearest landscaping place will have them, or go find them. I find all mine, California granite looks nice in tanks

I got some pieces of slate once for my rams to spawn on, then realized I couldn't use it because it had small flecks of gold stuff in it which would cause problems in the tank..so I was told...
How can I know what rocks are safe to use?

then get a wood frame the same size as your tank's top, put some mesh that is really fine, and you can also put a hinge in the middle so that you can open it without taking everything off the top. Thats what I did and it really works.

rocks and some anubias plants. Anubias will root itself in the wood and your geos won't uproot them. I've kept both together for years. Tie fishing line around the roots of the plant to the wood and you can remove it in a week or so. Anubias is cheap, common and you don't need to dose for ferts or have nice lighting. They are very hearty. Yes yes yes on the river stones. My geos never spawned on slate, they spawned on smooth stones. Also, run the heaters sideways behind the rocks to hide them from the main viewing angle.

I agree that adding few larger intresting looking rocks would make it look much nicer. Also, since u have an open top u could try putting some photos plants or bamboo in there. Only roots in the water of course with the leaves going over the top of the tank. Looks pretty cool to me

I was actually thinking about doing this!! I LOVE the look of it. It also helps reduce nitrates right?

& @ Clownkife, thanks, I'll check out that link in just a minute.
